Renoise 3.0: Creating a layered instrument

Drawbars
In this exercise, we will recreate one of the instruments that come with Renoise 3, a drawbar organ emulation. This instrument is a great, general purpose tone generator - able to create sounds with a wide range of harmonics. At the end of the exercise, we should be able to control our creation via macros, too.

Renoise 3.0 beta-test has started

Drawbars

With Renoise 3.0, a lot of what makes Renoise special in the first place - the tracker interface, the flexible effects and routing - has now been integrated into its built-in sampler. The user interface has been redesigned with a dedicated instrument section, allowing quick access to even the most deeply hidden feature. And it is possible to detach the instrument and stick it on a separate monitor, too.

Artist In:Depth - Cristian Vogel

The latest in our series of In:Depth interviewees should need no introduction. Since debuting on Dave Clarke's label with some crunchy, abstract techno offerings in the early 90s, Cristian Vogel's been continously keeping busy exploring everything from sound design to live improvisation to contemporary dance productions to good old wonky techno bangers.

And now he's making a Renoise album. It's called The Inertials and is a collection of "shiny new techno/electro with many layers of rhythm programming, sound design and microdetails to surprise, freak-out and delight" according to Cristian himself.
