Early in 2014 the excellent Create Digital Music/Motion news site published a brief notice regarding an interesting tool for the Renoise DAW. The tool incorporates the power of software created by the Composers Desktop Project (CDP), a collective of composers and programmers guided primarily by the work of Trevor Wishart.

In this exercise, we will recreate one of the instruments that come with Renoise 3, a drawbar organ emulation. This instrument is a great, general purpose tone generator - able to create sounds with a wide range of harmonics. At the end of the exercise, we should be able to control our creation via macros, too.

With Renoise 3.0, a lot of what makes Renoise special in the first place - the tracker interface, the flexible effects and routing - has now been integrated into its built-in sampler. The user interface has been redesigned with a dedicated instrument section, allowing quick access to even the most deeply hidden feature. And it is possible to detach the instrument and stick it on a separate monitor, too.
