Hello,
Renoise 1.8b2 crashes if I try to run it. It can't even generate any log files in the \documents&settings folder.
Even after I deleted the "cashed vsts" file in the \Renoise folder it still crashes.
If this is going to help, the OS gave the following error message:
AppName: renoise.exe
AppVer: 1.8.0.0
ModName: renoise.exe
ModVer: 1.8.0.0
Offset: 001f1b7b
My machine:
Athlon XP mobile 2500+ (clocked at 1890 Mhz)
AC '97 onboard soundcard (no ASIO drivers installed)
1 GB shared memory
S3 Pro Savage gfx card (dedicated 64MB to it)
Maximum and current screen resolution: 1024*768
OS: WinXP
Running TSRs (if of any importance): AV Personal, Miranda ICQ, Launch Manager (some shortcut tool)
Regards

hey gilli
bummer to hear you're having serious probs like that with 1.8.
during what phase does renoise crash on you?
whilst "searching for new VST plugins"?
maybe you should try deleting every data in the documents and settings folder for renoise, especially the config.xml, so that renoise doesn't know where to search for VSTs yet.
this way you can at least exclude certain possibilites and rule out the true cause for the crash.

Hey keith!
I just did what you said. I moved the whole \renoise folder out of my documents&settings but it still crashes.
I can't figure out on which action it happens. Renoise doesn't get that far that I could see gui of it. It happens while I'm still seeing my desktop. I'm having the same problem with the first beta btw.

if you're quite expert with Windows, please also try filemon to try to understand what's wrong

Mobile Athlon and Duron processors have SSE disabled by default, there is a trick to enable it...

You can't start Renoise without SSE support.
