Competitions

  • Renoise BeatBattle is Renoise's official music competition, usually with prizes involved. Despite its name, the competition focuses on themes rather than on beats. The entries are made available in Renoise format to enjoy and learn from.
  • SDCompo is a monthly compo inspired by the scene group Soundevotion. To keep things interesting, every month a rule changes. The Soundevotion Compo is quickly gaining popularity. Besides Renoise, many tracker formats are accepted, so you have the opportunity to match your skills to musicians from other communities.
  • Renoise One Hour Competitions are held in the official Renoise IRC channel: #renoise at irc.esper.net

Past Projects

  • Longtrack attempts to be the longest Renoise song ever, to prove that Renoise 1.28's limit of 255 patterns per module is really not that limitating. The idea came when a speedcore artist complained that at 2 and half minutes his song hit the last pattern. The result is a musical journey with a duration of over 60 minutes, created by 14 participants.

Renoise BeatBattle

The concept for Renoise official music competition "BeatBattle" was born in 2003, its main focus being fat beats. In the same year 24 people with all sorts of musical preferences participated in the first edition. The strict adherence to a single musical style was however soon abandoned and traded in for a theme, which was considered to be more fair. The name of the competition has ever since not been changed, although technically incorrect. After 3 BeatBattles in 2003 the competition seems to be gone forever.

On New Years Eve 2005/2006 the greatly antipated Renoise BeatBattle was back, this time with a unique prize: the winner could choose a new feature for Renoise 1.8. With 51 entries, BeatBattle IV: Winter became the most succesful Renoise competition to date. The feature that was chosen is External Audio Recording and can be found in Renoise 1.8.

Renoise BeatBattle 5 ran from May to September. While the `underwater` theme was considered hard by many, there were still 54 participants. The compo had over 1500 Euro worth of prizes.
