History

Renoise was originally written from the code of another tracker called NoiseTrekker, made by Juan Antonio Arguelles Rius (Arguru). The then unnamed Renoise project was initiated by Eduard Mueller (Taktik) and Zvonko Tesic (Phazze) during December 2000.

The first public release was made available in 2002. As the popularity of Renoise increased, many small updates followed in a relatively short period.

It took the developers more than a year to finish Renoise 1.5. Compared to its predecessor there was a considerable amount of changes in all aspects, most notably in the way it looked, and this fact was reflected by skipping version numbers. A lot of effort was spent on the internals of the program, the benefits of which would not be apparent to the user, despite its necessity for further development. Not unimportantly, 1.5 was also available for MacOSX.

A similar big jump occured when the team worked on its successor 1.8, which besides many functional changes, included a lot of improvements to the user interface. Most importantly, Renoise would now be able to output data in XML and store user content in an open file format, making it possible to access the data outside the program.

With the advent of Renoise 1.9 the team returned to releasing more frequent updates. The highlight of 1.9.1 was a Linux version. Renoise 2.0.0 introduced a new timing engine with PDC and added AU support.
