[Incomplete Doc] "selected sample modulation set device index"?

Renoise Forum - December 26, 2020 - 02:26

R3.2.4 Win10 x64
It seems that the API is missing the device selection within the sample_modulation_set (Reniose.Song.API.lua):

– Access a single device by index.
renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:device(index)

This is to access the properties of the device. But there is no way to select the device (inside the sample_modulation_set). Something like this:
renoise.song().selected_sample_modulation_set_device_index (this does not exist!)
This should select the device and also visually center it.

Do not confuse with this:
renoise.song().selected_sample_modulation_set_index (this does exist!)

Or am I missing something? Can anyone check this?

[Visual Bug] selected_sample_device_index does not centralize visually!

Renoise Forum - December 25, 2020 - 22:38

R3.2.4 Win10 x64
I have found a problem in the visual selection of the device using:

renoise.song().selected_sample_device_index (visual centralized not exist!)

When changing this value from the tool, the effects device panel should automatically mark and center the selected device. Renoise marks it correctly, but does not center it.

In the track’s DSP devices panel, it does work correctly with:
renoise.song().selected_track_device_index (visual centralized ok)

@taktik should check out this issue.

Renoise Forum - December 25, 2020 - 20:38

The minimum value of inertia inside the Analog Filter is:
6.103515625e-05

What does this number mean?
How to convert it to a normal decimal number?

Redux: lacking MIDI out (and channel assignment)

Renoise Forum - December 25, 2020 - 12:24

Hi,
I’m new to trackers and testing Renoise and Redux. So fare so good.

Redux is a great sampler and I seriously consider buying, but one thing holds me back a bit.

Why doesn’t have it MIDI out? Every step-sequencer plugin has a MIDI out as far as I’m aware of. It seems I can Redux only use with samples and integrated instruments. With a MIDI out, (or more of them), you could use it with any plugin / software / hardware.

A other and less important thing where I find it is lacking somehow, is that I can’t assign midi channels to a sample. Now you’ve to make a keyboardmapping first to map it to your midi track. Which is fine when you use all the midi in one midi track. But in other cases you want to use different midi tracks, with different channels and route them to you samples. Maybe then you’ll need the option to make different parts in Redux.

For example, in the LSP multisampler plugin, you can make different instrument and assign different midi channels and midi notenumbers (and it has a MIDI out of course )

Disable Midi song position pointers on specific channels

Renoise Forum - December 25, 2020 - 01:52

Hi,

I’m trying to control a (sensitive) hardware synth that can get easily drawn when receiving MIDI it does not expect.

I’m using a midi quadra trough device where I send all MIDI signals (clock etc…). On the synth specific channel, I managed to disable everything except the note on/off however it seems that the option song position pointers in the preference is causing a problem.

Is it possible to disable it on a specific channel?

Thanks

Good "learner" MIDI keyboard for a guy completely new to keyboarding?

Renoise Forum - December 24, 2020 - 23:43

Hi there - I am a born/bred tracker. I learned on FastTracker 2 and now use Renoise in a semi (very semi) pro capacity. However, I feel that I’m missing out on something pretty big by only knowing how to ‘track’ as opposed to compose using expressions, chords etc that could be rapidly reproduced or tinkered with on a keyboard.

So…let’s say I want to learn to play keyboard (not sure on distinguishing piano and keyboard; mainly just want to open my mind to new musical/melodic/harmonic/chord-progression possibilities).

Do any of you have a recommendation for a “learner” MIDI keyboard to learn from, especially if you’ve had personal experience with it?
Any info and suggestions are welcome.
Thank you so much for your time.

Automap VST Instruments to automation by moving VST GUI knob

Renoise Forum - December 24, 2020 - 19:14

Hi- I am new here so appo9logies if there is already a way to do this but I cant seem to find it.
I am enjoying Renoise having recently bought it, the one thing I cant seem to get my head around is mapping VST Instruments. I can do it with the meta *inst automation, but it is a pain to find the actual parameter I was to automate, most VSTs have hundreds of parameters, long lists not always intelligently named! I guess I am spit as in my other DAW"S I just move the graphical knob or dial on the Instrument GUI (as this is usually how I have found what I want to automate) and its mapped…is there anything like this in Renoise?

Can audio routing be saved?

Renoise Forum - December 23, 2020 - 23:07

Is there a way to save the audio routing settings to a preset? I tried saving the preset and bank found at the top of the page but the audio routing doesn’t seem to be saved in those. Any script?

I’d like to name all the outputs from a drum machine and load them from a file not having to manually figure out and rename them every time I use it

Slight Crackles when Saving a bigger project (Linux)

Renoise Forum - December 23, 2020 - 14:30

Just curious if your Renoise behaves the same:

I m on Ubuntustudio 20.4 and I’m using Jack typically with 1024 samples. When I’m saving a larger project the GUI freezes and get a slight crackling sound when I hit Ctrl+S. No xruns appear just a slight crackle. I can image that saving a project increases CPU usage a lot. Or could it be due to the SDD. I thought that Renoise loads all samples into the RAM, so saving on the SDD should not interfere with the audio.

Helm VST not found (Linux)

Renoise Forum - December 23, 2020 - 14:26

Hi,

I’m having a bit a problem with getting Helm to work.

On my system (Ubuntustudio) Helm is located in /usr/lib/lxvst. I added the path variables in .bashrc with

export VST_PATH=/home/marco/.vst:/home/marco/.vst3:/usr/lib/lxvst:/usr/lib/vst:/usr/lib/vst3

and echo path gives me

echo $VST_PATH
/home/marco/.vst:/home/marco/.vst3:/usr/lib/lxvst:/usr/lib/vst:/usr/lib/vst3

Still Renoise does not find Helm. It was working in the past on Debian… Am I missing something?

What's the point of phrases?

Renoise Forum - December 23, 2020 - 13:35

Hello, I’ve used renoise for 9 months. I know how to use phrases and use them in patterns. It comes super handy for beats and recurrent melodies. But my main issue is that it becomes impossible to mix afterward. For instance, how do you sidechain that phrase kick with your bass ? How do you eq that phrase hat separatly from the rest of beat elements ? I’m missing something ? I prefer relying on pattern alias because it’s not constraining that mixing part. Do you use phrases ? What for ? How ?
