Error MIDI In: one octave displaced
@Raul wrote:
R3.2.1. W10
I had not noticed this detail so far, but there seems to be a strange situation in the MIDI input or an error. What happens:
It seems that all octaves are shifted an entire octave up in the MIDI input, something that makes no sense. In the MIDI Output it works correctly. So:
- If you press C-0 or any key on the octave 0 of your physical MIDI keyboard, it will not return any notes (it will not record anything in the pattern editor).
- If you press C-1, it will record C-0
- If you press C-2, it will record C-1
- …
- If you press C-9, it will record C-8
- If you press C-10, it will not return any notes. Then, the whole octave 9 cannot be recorded from the MIDI input. Again, something that makes no sense.
I have tried this with several MIDI devices and they all work the same way.
I wonder if this matter also has something to do with the mess that exists with this other problem:
Frequency tooltip in spectrum panel Help, Support & Bugs I always wondered, why is the frequency tooltip in the spectrum analyzer displaying a note one octave higher than one would expect? [Zwischenablage01]@taktik. Please, I propose that these two issues be reviewed in depth and corrected. Currently, Renoise is confusing as it is now, in the handling of the octaves.
I think I should start recording at the eighth 0, and the spectrum should also start at the eighth 0 (with A-4 = 440Hz). Renoise should be more consistent here, and not make strange transpositions, and it is also confusing when it comes to building tools related to this topic.
It would be nice if someone else confirmed this issue…

This is something really special. I installed TikTok which is more addictive then i thought though but besides that.
Swiping along i came across this magical sound. 1st few seconds i though it’s fake because some parts reminded me of a SNES. But then it strikes me i need to do something with this melody!

Quickest way to render a loop to audio?

What’s the quickest way to render a single pattern loop to audio, so you can load it as a break into the sampler? Is there a way to render a pattern selection do an instrument this way?

Nimble kick, Tonal kicks pitching plugin

Kick sampler plugin typically used for Hardstyle.
It doesn’t costs much and it sounds great! You can play kick samples with it, where only the tail gets pitched. There are several algorithms for pitching.
Its VST3 only, so you cant use it in Renoise till it supports it. But there some workarounds for that.
Maybe someone is searching for something like this.

Change drag and drop behavior for samples
@toimp wrote:
Its currently not possible to drag and drop samples from file browser to an open VSTi. Its even not possible to drag them out of Renoise. Would be nice to have this.
I currently need to use the “Reveal file” function to get it selected in the Explorer, so i can drag them onto the VSTi.

Renoise 3.2.1 crashing - sample issue
@lilith wrote:
Hi,
I thought actually that’s a problem of Carla, but falkTX (KXStudio maintainer) said it’s related to renoise.
Here’s an example file that crashes as soon I switch to the sampler. Somehow it’s related to the actual chosen sample. After deleting it it works.
Renoise file is here: https://mega.nz/#!Wvhk0aZb!18avtqy1ohzsrs5CkYDyXYV5x5J-0O3TG9wTNfWY-jg
falkTX could reproduce it, so I guess that should also work for you.
and here’s the crash log: https://pastebin.com/s4uyk2ap

Automatic deselection in pattern editor upon navigation
@Strotch wrote:
It would be great to have an option to make it so selections go away as soon as you press an arrow key to navigate in the pattern editor. This is how it works in every other tracker I’ve used. I know this is something that has been requested now and then for a decade - hopefully now is the time! I always find it troublesome how selections insist on being so retentive.
Related; it would be great if clicking somewhere with the mouse didn’t by default make a new selection. Only when starting the drag the mouse after clicking the selection could appear.
These could both be perfectly optional of course.
Would either be doable using custom tools?

New Tool (3.2): Expand Song
@tesselode wrote:
DownloadA tool for expanding a whole song by an integer factor. This tool is similar to the built-in expand function in the advanced edit pane, but it preserves the timing of notes with delay values. It can also automatically adjust the song’s LPB value and sample beat sync values.
Access it via Tools > Expand Song…
This also adds two keybindings:
- Pattern Editor > Expand > Expand Song… - opens the expand song dialog
- Pattern Editor > Expand > Expand Song by 2x - doubles the resolution of the song with the default settings
The source code is available here.
Todo- Adjust LPB effect commands in the song
- Allow expanding selected patterns instead of the whole song (this is a complicated task that I haven’t quite figured out yet!)

Keeping audio inputs in Renoise in slave mode
@EvilWezil wrote:
I’m using Renoise for several midi send/return instruments - out to my external synths then audio routed back into those tracks for mixing.
I’m now recording some live instruments with it using Pro Tools synced up with ReWire. Unfortunately, Pro Tools is a total dom and will only run as a master. But, when I do this, all of my audio inputs in Renoise are disabled and I lose those synth returns as the I/O control is now shifted over to Pro Tools.
I know I can set up audio in for those instrument returns as tracks in pro tools, but I would then lose the ability to sidechain effects against Renoise instruments and other mixing functionality.
Can anyone suggest a workaround to keeping the audio ins within Renoise? Or better yet forcing Pro Tools to be a slave?
Thanks!

Midi drag drop diagonally matrix
@getit wrote:
Hello there!
I have a difficult question I think…
I want to drag and drop 140 small midi melodies files into Renoise, assign theme to play using an instrument (say 01). I also have a rhythm loop at 00
In matrix each midi takes place diagonally for 140 tracks!
How to fast assign all of them to play in sequence, 1,2,3 etc with loop?
I want to export them in a single wav file or if it is easy better in 140 wav files
Any solutions please?

[idea] export unused samples/instr. to new songfile
@Jonas wrote:
Oy,
often when digging for samples I end up with one big songfile containing a lot of samples. After some first tries, different ideas I’ll end up with the basis of a track only using a small amount of the total.
The rest of the unused samples don’t have to be crap necessarily, they just don’t fit in with the started idea.
I would love to have a tool which lets you export these unused samples / instruments to a new songfile. Automatically cutting away the fat from the initial idea.
A ‘delete used instruments’ keyboard shortcut would also do, only leaving the unused, enabling to save a song yourself. All the manual deleting is tedious. Does something like this already exist somewhere?

Breakbeat modular weirdness
@kyrre wrote:
The Magpie Pirates discord organized a breakbeat compilation, and this is my submission:
Same discord also has a channel going where people patch other users’ euroracks. Every non drum sound on this is borrowed from sounds uploaded in that channel (except one part towards the end that cannibalizes someone else’s abandoned submission for the breakbeat album). I used a drum vst to make an amen like break, but most drum sounds are default samples in Renoise.
