2019 macbook pro 8 or 16gb
@persywho wrote:
hi,
WARNING: annoying newb question incoming…
i’ve been on mac for years. dont really want to switch. im about to buy a new laptop for production based around renoise and was wondering if any macbook pro users here are experiencing significant performance differences between 8gb and 16gb on macbook pros? i can get a 13" w/ 8gb on amazon for cheaper than the apple store but there is no option to upgrade to 16gb. if i order from the apple store i will have to pay tax on top of the $200 upgrade price so the price difference is significant to me (almost $400 with tax) because im on a tight budget. so, im looking for advice from others here who are using a newer macbook.
i dont use alot of plugins. no plug ins instruments really. i make sample based old school jungle tunes.
any feedback is appreciated.

Volume from external keyboard
@jedao wrote:
Hello,
Whenever I enter notes with the external Yamaha keyboard (USB connection), the volume for every note is set to 50 (effect command). Can I change this? When using the PC keyboard, it doesn’t decrease the volume.
Thanks

How to use renoise
@Doof wrote:
Hi, I’m new to Renoise and DAWs in general.The only thing I used before was Sunvox which has a somewhat similar concept.
But for the last couple of days I tried stuff out, watched videos and read the wiki. But there are still some things I don’t quite understand or couldn’t find out.
- How to select a pattern with the mouse? At the moment I click into the pattern list and use the cursor keys to switch patterns. Because I can’t figure out how to switch to a pattern without starting the playback.
Is there a better way to switch focus with the keyboard? Because I find it hard to switch from the track list to the pattern list with ctrl+shift+tab, as it only works with left ctrl and shift (and right ctrl and shift do start playing the song).
- How can I start the track from the cursor position?
- Is there a way to loop the current pattern only?
- Is it possible to edit a note in a track without the cursor jumping to the next position?
Ok, that’s all for now. Thanks for reading. And sorry for my bad english…

Effective inverse FFT (ICZT) found and published
@vvoois wrote:
For those interested, i have noticed various mentionings of FFT could never be possible to have it efficiently calculated inversed throughout the past decade around on the area of audio processing.
It seems two scientists managed to untangle that particular issue…:
" Generalizing the inverse FFT off the unit circle"
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-50234-9?fbclid=IwAR0uBKTMLPoU3tiv8Fg6eW93XGScHI4s9G-xgpkBT3c0B8ivSSegAdFz2k4
I’m not sure if the new calculation methods are as speedy as the forward method, but it may be an interesting read to many developers who use FFT for data processinng on any area.

Sample from pattern A does not continue to play when moving to pattern B
@LNITB wrote:
is there a way I can let a sample continue to play trough various other patterns without resetting the sample? It is a long vocal I wish to have continue playing troughout various patterns. Pretty new to renoise. Searched the net and this forum, and the manual ofc. (I am sorry if this has been mentioned before) I have to go to bed now. Maybe by tomorrow someone can help me achieve me to do this?
Thanks in advance,
Kind regards LNITB

[BUG] The generic name Phrase XX not appear in Keymap mode
@Raul wrote:
(W10 x64, R3.1.1 & R3.2.0)
The formats of name “Phrase 1” or “Phrase 01” (Phrase + space + number) or equivalent, do not appear in the upper distribution of the virtual piano. If you type “Phrase” or any other word for the name of the phrase, it will appear.
If the name does not appear, the user may think that the phrase has no name. No problem if it appears like this:
01 - Phrase 01, even if it is redundant.

Setup midi to trigger a ducking curve in gatekeeper?
@Land_of_Bits wrote:
he guys since i bought gatekeeper i’ve used it as my main method for sidechain/ducking since its trigger via midi and it doesnt have to deal with the timing issues that compressors and envelope followers have
so how can i set it up ??
using a signal follower with a short click i can trigger the “Go parameter” which is the one that sets the curve-shape in motion but then im relying on the signal follower and the timing issues and all that
automating the value like the picture also doenst fix the issue ???

[BUG] Phrase Editor: Keymap: Autoseek button fails!
@Raul wrote:
(W10 x64, R3.1.1 & R3.2.0)
There seems to be a small error with the Autoseek button (switch), in the phrase editor, with the playback mode in Keymap:
- Create a native instrument.
- Inside the phrase editor, configure the playback mode of the instrument in “Keymap”.
- Create various phrases.
- Be sure to select a phrase that is not linked to the virtual piano.
- Problem: the Autoseek button remains “active”, when it should be inactive, like the rest of the controls. In fact, this button does not react when pressed (it is not possible to activate / deactivate).
This also happens in 3.2.0 and also in version 3.1.1…

[3.2] New Doofer: PEDALBOARD Effects Chain
@trueschool wrote:
After reading this article about the “best” signal chain for guitar effects, I decided to string out the recommended signal chain and save it as a Renoise Doofer.
PEDALBOARD- Straight Line.xrdp (19.8 KB)
I found the article educational about the best place to put certain types of effects, like putting a compressor first, a noise gate before your “ambience” effects like delay and reverb, and a final EQ at the end of the chain.
Of course this is useful for other types of sounds besides guitar, and it’ll be fun to run different types of signals through it.
One last caveat – all the effects in the chain are switched ON by default, so there is a lot of modulation, reverb – just a lot of EVERYTHING going on. You will probably get a more usable sound by selectively turning things off and playing with the settings of each effect. Hopefully, though, it’ll get you started on making big, rawking sounds!

Backwards compatibility - old *.rns files
@TheBellows wrote:
I found some old cd/dvd with backups from old *.rns files dating back to year 2000. They all seem to fail to load, so i wonder which version is the last one that supported these old files?
I’d like to upgrade them to recent *.xrns files, how or wich versions could i use to upgrade these in the least amount of steps?
