Renoise Mutant Soundpacks -- Kicks, Drums, Percussion
(Originating thread: Renoise Mutant Sound and Processing Department)
Hello Everyone!
This is the first in a series of 12 threads that I’ll be starting this year to host collaborative renoise resources. This month, the “format” is percussion (you can view the planned “theme” for each month in the original topic linked above).
I am staying true to my word that I will be paying out $100 of bounty money to those who submit samples, instruments etc. There is no system for how that works so if someone submits 100 oneshot samples and another person makes a 32-channel cybernetic drum-machine submitted as a single xrni, I would say those could be potentially equivalent. The main idea with the money is that it’s just a little fun so maybe some of you have some beer money at the end of every month, it’s nothing super serious lol.
The main goal with this project is to produce renoise-native tools that are free, interesting, well thought out, and USABLE I ask that participants keep this, as the final and hosted selection may not include all entries.
To say more: entries (in whatever format) should use only native renoise processing and royalty-free samples – simple test: any entry, in whatever format, should load into a clean install of renoise and it works just like it’s supposed to. that said, nothing is wrong with using samples rendered from VST.
Original, self-generated samples are preferred, though if you have royalty-free samples to submit I would ask that you be judicious For this month (probably in general too), instruments are much preferred to samples, but if you’ve got some really cool one-shots then by all means share them.
Since this month is percussion, and there isn’t going to be a month dedicated to breaks, I would say that breaks are the one exception to this rule. That said, please don’t submit break-samples all by themselves – put them in an instrument and do some fun things with them!
I would greatly encourage any participants to submit early and with a large spread of submissions, for a couple reasons – one, in the name of collaboration, I would find it fun for others to tweak or give feedback to my instruments, and to be able to do the same, so that at the end of each month, we have a truly collaborative product. If you want to submit multiple “versions” of an entry, just let me know which one you would like to be the “definitive” one (if applicable).
I’m sure I’m missing something but just let me know your thoughts or questions and I can add it to the OP.
I’m looking forward to see what people are making!

ADSR Question / variable Attack
Hello everyone.
I have a question and I’m sorry again if it’s a noob one
I have a simple instrument (a saw) with ADSR applied: 1s for attack and 8s for decay (S and R are zero).
Here is what I want to achieve: when I play the first note, attack is applied and during decay when I play a second note I want that attack is applied again, BUT from the current decay volume. So if the instrument volume during decay was at 50%, the attack should last only 0.5s to reach it’s peak and NOT start from the beginning with 0 volume. I hope I’ve described it well and understandable.
I know that this can be achieved by using the E command for envelope position, but with this I have to manually figure out the correct value for the position for every note I play. Is there another way, something I need to set in sample properties or elsewhere?
Thanks very much for help.
Cheers!

ProTracker album
I used the Windows clone of ProTracker to make this album. I prepped all the samples in Renoise, though! Actually some of the tracks I basically wrote in Renoise and then just exported whole pattern blocks as samples… i.e. the lazy method.

Bug? Why does Redux play this XI differently than MilkyTracker?
Hello,
Still running into weird things with Redux when I try to work with it. Today’s weirdness: Why does Redux handle this FastTracker instrument differently than MilkyTracker, ie: wrongly?
Oh, wait, I can’t attach an XI, XM, or a Zip to this post. Sigh. Now what?

Slide TD-3 from pattern veiw?
Wasn’t really sure where to ask this.
Does anybody here use a Behringer TD-3? I was wondering if anybody knows if it is possible to slide or tie midi notes together?
I’m aware of the M0 - M3 commands but M1 doesn’t slide the pitch but does change it. I did figure out how do it with the *instru. MIDI Control Pitchbend. I guess that works pretty well but I am trying to mimic is the portamento that is found when it is programmed onto the TD-3 machine interface. It’s a bit steppy as things are with trackers sometimes. I guess I can just double my LPB for higher resolution.
Does anybody have any expert experience on tracking midi to a TD-3 with Renoise and could give me any pointers?
Thanks.

Just a simple question about GUI
Hello,
As everything develops further, I am interested in your simple answer.
Do you prefer a uniform renoise gui or do you prefer something else as well?
I’m asking because development takes time and I don’t want to waste it on nonsense.
I have another tool that supports skinning now.
It’s not just a sketch, both versions work
So… Skins or not?

New Tool: Combine Instruments
Spent a whole day making my first Lua program. It basically copies samples from several instruments into one. I couldn’t find a way to copy samples fast, so big samples take quite a lot of time to be processed (don’t worry if Renoise wants to terminate process). Hope you’ll find it useful! Any feedback is appreciated.

if you like fast, hard, crazy, experimental music, give it a listen
will be on streaming services in a week or so

Can't save in Renoise Songs folder
Started having a weird issue when trying to save slightly older songs in Renoise 3.4.2 on Windows 10
Renoise can no longer save anything in the documents folder in my user profile. This includes my Renoise Songs folder (where I keep a lot of older projects), and the folder I keep my samples in.
Saving an existing song or sample gives me this error:
Saving failed with the error:
Failed to open the file ‘C:\Users\myname\Documents\Renoise Songs\suede.xrns’ for writing.
Also got a similar error when trying to Save As:
C:\Users\myname\Documents\Renoise Songs\bano.xrns
File not found.
Check the file name and try again.
The folders are not set to Read-only. I can save a text file from notepad in those folders with no problem. I can also save renoise songs outside of the documents folder (on the Desktop for example).
I’ve checked the permissions for the Documents folder and I don’t see anything unusual
Any ideas?

Work In Progress
I’m working at this tiny piece at the moment. yes, I know there might by some similarities between this and something called strobe by deadmau5.
Anywayz. I’m happy to be a renoise-user since 20 years. That makes me old.

Listen Bus for mixing purpose
Nice feature which I noticed in Studio One. There is 2 main busses: Master Bus and Listen Bus. The only difference is that Listen Bus does not affect Master Bus while rendering.
Would be nice to have this feature for instances when i need to use EQ correction for my headphones while mixing.
Image just for more clear understanding.

Tool Idea / Script Question - before I start diving in
Is it possible to trigger something, when the play position cursor hits a specific note in specific track -
and when it hits - can it start Recording a sample for the Sampler/Instrument.
And continue recording - until a next specified note in the specified track is hit - then stops recording and stores the sample.
Think it like a Punch-in/out recording. Example:
C3 - Start recording new sample
D3 - Stop Recording
Recorded samples get mapped to from C4…etc

Melodic Sample Slicer/Chopper
I need a tool that basically replicates Serato Sample’s tempo sync after slicing feature within the Sample Editor.
First and foremost I do this manually just about everytime I use samples, so I know Renoise has the technology to accomplish this.
I use the Chop Sample tool which is AWESOME however it only works for even divisions and I still have to highlight all my samples and adjust the beatsync.
A tool that works with the auto slicer and calculates non-even slices then simultaneously sets the beatsync length relative to the original sample theoretically does this.
I’m willing to PAY for this.Any takers?? Paypal, Cash app???

Smallest possible screen size for Renoise?
Hi,
What is the smallest display size/resolution that Renoise can still be run on?
Wondering if 7 or 8 inch compact display would do?
Cheers!
