Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 22:14

From whats in your (my) mind:

Any Ibanez Players here? Got a old Ibanez Fretless Roadstar II Bass, with "Duo Sound System" don't know how the pickups works, it drives me crazy The Empty Self i have an ibanez gio but its pretty straightforward pick up configuration ..post a picture in a dedicated thread this is cool topic

known:

Controlls at the picture: 1 up 2 middle 3 down

1 Balance - Center = both pickups are equally balanced (humbucking)                     Clockwise more neck                     Counter-Clockwise more bridge    2 Volume - Push = Single neck pickup

3 Tone.    - Push = Single bridge pickup   dont know: How work or is the relationship with 1 Balance or 3 Tone at Single Coil Modus

From Reaper to Renoise

Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 20:19
Hello all,

This is my first post here. I am a long time user of the DAW Reaper which I have grown tired of using. I have recently purchased some synthesizer modules which I love to use, but it is a pain to sequence with Reaper’s piano roll. Many of my favorite artists have used trackers, particularly Renoise, and as I have looked into it, it has intrigued me. Great price to boot.

I will do my best to explain my workflow and hopefully you experienced Renoise/tracker users can tell me if Renoise would be a good choice for my needs.

- I have synthesizers and drum machines with internal sequencers (which I sequence them with)
- I record them one at a time on separate tracks
- I record vocals and vocal harmonies on separate tracks one at a time
- I want to then sequence my synthesizer modules with my DAW

- arrange the recorded audio. Move audio around, volume automations, fade things in and out, panning, etc
- mix the individual tracks with FX, EQ, compression, etc. Including the ability to EQ and compress my reverb send channels themselves which I find can really un-muddy things
- mastering
- exporting

I would love to hear your opinions.

Thank you

using ipad's garageband scaled keyboard as a midi controller in re

Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 19:21

hello,
I know I ask the impossible but : i would like to know if there's a way to use ipad garageband keyboard as a midi controller to play scaled with vsts.

i know i can scale directly in renoise but it doesn't make the wrong key disappearing from my novation midi keyboard ^^ so unless i know the scale it's useless in live...

thanks by advance

Best midi sequencer for renoise

Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 17:20

Hi all! I just bought a Launchpad pro in order to sequence my beats externally. I saw some videos showing how to sequence beats using the launchpad but not the pro. I have been trying with no luck to use the pro as an external sequencer.

So my question is: what are some hardware sequencers available where I can easily map tracks and patterns in renoise?

My current setup is all hardware synths and drum machines but it would be awesome if I could sequence drums and samples through renoise and incorporate them into a track live.

Happy new year and thanks in advance!

Duplex - Launchpad colors

Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 12:47

Hi, hope someone can shed some light on this:

I often use my Launchpad (mk1) with Duplex, and mostly the mode "Matrix, Transport, Navigator".
Works fine, except when I have a lot of tracks it's hard to know whats what - all tracks and matrix blocks from Renoise are colored yellow on the LP, and red when muted.

I know it does not matter what colors i've set in Renoise tracks and blocks, so is there any way I can change the pad colours on the LP, and store the settings in the XRNS somehow so that it will load the same setup every time?

TheBellows Tracks

Renoise Forum - January 14, 2019 - 00:42

I'll post my tracks in this thread from now on:

___________________________________

Not the most exiting stuff i have made, but this time i focused more on trying to get a well balanced mix, an attempt to mix properly for a change. Not sure how well i succeeded with that?

I appreciate any feedback on the production quality, is it balanced well? Is there anything that doesn't fit well with the mix? Does the bass sound allright? How far from a professional mix is it? Does it sound dynamic enough? Any suggestion for improvements?

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 23:31

Hi!

Here is a new future bass track I'm working on. 100% Renoise of course.

I'm not completely sure if the intro is really catchy... but this is still in progress.

Some kind of Techno - Improving the mix. How to?

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 20:28

Here's a track i'm working on since some days and I'm stuck with improving the mix. Do you think it sounds good (ok is not good enough  ) or do you see some deficits here?

If you know of something that sounds similar that would be great. I even have problems with the style... guess it's techno?

New tool (3.1.1): Piano Roll Editor v2.0 build 124 (December 2018)

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 19:38

The second version is here! Merry Christmas!

What is the "Piano Roll Editor"?

The "Piano Roll Editor" or also called "PRE" as an abbreviation is a tool for the representation and advanced editing of notes for the DAW Renoise (current version 3.1.1 of 64 bit). It is a piano roll arranged vertically with a top control bar, an intermediate grid for the roll and another bottom panel that represents a horizontal virtual piano, along with another smaller mirror piano on the top of the roll.

Piano Roll Editor 64bit v2.0 build 124... a original tool by ulneiz

The PRE program is distributed in 64-bit XRNX format through a "Demo Version", free, so that anyone can try it and through another "Full Version", not free, which requires a personalized use license. Please, contact the author to get your personal license for use. This additional software demonstrates another of Renoise's not-so-well-known capabilities: programming and the use of advanced editing tools. Expand Renoise's capabilities with the Piano Roll Editor!

Piano Roll Editor. Download the Basic User Guide.

The Basic User Guide contains all the necessary information to know the tool, how to install it and use it properly. The Basic User Guide is available in English and Spanish. To read the basic user guide, you can follow the following links:

User Guide v2.0.124 (recent)

  1. Read the Piano Roll Editor Basic User Guide English version (HTML format).
  2. Leer Piano Roll Editor Guía Básica del Usuario versión en español (HTML format).

User Guide v1.0.117 (old)

  1. Read the Piano Roll Editor Basic User Guide English version (HTML format).
  2. Leer Piano Roll Editor Guía Básica del Usuario versión en español (HTML format).

Please read the Basic User Guide before trying it or before relating any questions in this forum!

Piano Roll Editor 64bit v2.0 build 124. Chord Builder.

Piano Roll Editor. Download the Demo version 64bit (XRNX format). How to install it?

The "Demo Version" includes all the capabilities of this tool, but includes a time limitation and an informative pop-up window. Please read the User's Basic Guide first before downloading this tool.

To install: install the tool just like any other, by double clicking on the XRNX file or dragging it over the Renoise window. Remember that it is only compatible with the 64bit version of Renoise. The 32-bit version requires a different packaging that at the moment I'm not willing to build...

You can download the demo version here:

Demo Version v2.0.124 (recent)

Demo Version v1.0.117 (old)

Piano Roll Editor. Support the developer. How to get the Full Version?

The "Full Version" comes with all the capabilities of this tool and without any restriction. Please read the Basic User's Guide carefully for more information.

This "Full Version" requires a "Personalized Use License", through a "Registration File" valued at 10€ (euros). If you are interested in getting the Full Version and thus support the developer, send me a private message and I will inform you of the details. Please, consider supporting the development and maintenance of this kind of tools. Keep in mind that it takes a lot of time and effort to build!

Enjoy the Demo Version of this jewel!

How to Get Roland D50 type sounds (Renoise/Linux)

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 19:08

I'm really interested in Roland D50 sounds:

www.synthmania.com/d-50.htm

How can I get similar sounds in Renoise?

Roland has the new D05 module of course, but I'd rather avoid the hardware integration issues.

Munt is an emulator of the MT-32, which is like a little brother of the D50, but the MT-32 doesn't sound as good. In fact it seems to have a stereotyped "video game" sound - although maybe clever processing could fix that. So I haven't even tried Munt.

Can some of the D50-type sounds be made directly in Renoise? I know that two of the biggest ingredients in the "Linear Arithmetic" synthesis are 1) Ring Modulation and 2) Sampled attack, synthesized body.

Renoise has a Ringmod but it seems to only multiply by fixed waveforms. True? In the D50 sounds, of course, both inputs to the Ringmod were configurable.

For sampled attack, synthesized body, I guess I could glue them together in Audacity, then import and let Renoise pitch-shift the whole thing - but the attack timing would change up and down the keyboard, probably wrong. I could use two Renoise instruments in parallel, one playing the sampled attack and one the synth-pad sound.

Has anyone made rich, D50-ish instruments in Renoise?

I cant press play (space) and midi keyboard key at the same time

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 16:47

Hello!

It constantly bothers me. When i want to record or play midi live i usually press play and some key on my midi keyboard. But nothing happens. Workaround is to use metronome precount, but its not always suitable. Is it bug?

What would Renoise ‘rebooted’ look like?

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 13:52

So in the spirit of movie reboots (e.g. Star Trek) which are largely done to free future directions from previous concepts. What would a ‘reboot’ look like for Renoise?

Lets say Taktik and co decide to create a new version of Renoise that’s is (gasp!) incompatible with the old version (lets call this Renoise Classic). With a redesign from the ground up, what direction could it go in? What would could be done different in terms of the fundamental codebase and overall design?

Perhaps there is a logic to this when terms such as ‘old and bloated codebase’ are used when software has reached a certain age and further development loses its appeal.

Given trends in the audio world right now I think the following could possibly feature in some way and baked in at a core fundamental level.

  • Scripting / Customisability / Modularity – While already baked into Renoise with lua scripting it has limitations with refresh rates, lack of audio processing, GUI design etc. See also Reaktor, Max, VCV Rack, Max for Live, Bitwig, PD, Loomer Architect for inspiration.

  • Flexible audio and Midi routing – Route anything anywhere.

  • Granular sample playback / Time Stretching / FFT Processing – Trackers have always been about sample manipulation so this kind of functionality would be essential I think.

  • Live Performance and Hardware integration – See Ableton Push and updates to the MIDI specification such as MPE. Also things like the Elektron Machines and their integration into a DAW via Overbridge, also consider Renoise tools such as Guru.

  • UI / Workflow – Appealing to the musicians as well as the prosumers, but then maybe you can’t have it all and being niche is inevitable.

  • AI and Machine Learning – Only in here because its the current buzz, not sure how useful it could be... but then… Sononym..

Legacy concepts that could probably be left behind

  • Tick based timing in favour of Sample Rate processing
  • Sample based player commands in favour of Parameter Locking
  • Self contained modules in favour of folder based file structures

I’m not saying this is the direction Renoise should go in but simply curious about what a fundamental redesign could enable. What would you add to these lists?

Coloring sequence numbers

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 03:11

If you could set a color on each sequence number / row, for example via context menu "set color", a color from a predefined set of 10 colors or so, it could be helpful for organisation. Similar die colored tags in macos.

Bug or missuse ?

Renoise Forum - January 13, 2019 - 00:28

Hi. I am new to Renoise and some weird things happen when I try to make a song. Example : I create a  pattern for a VST and  that pattern gets swapped randomly with another instrument or a sample. It happens randomly , sometimes when I close and re-open the song.

Also I somehow managed to make Renoise to move ALL of my vst filters cutoff to 0. All of them. If I switch each synth filter back , Renoise will bring the cutoff values down to 0 again when I press PLAY. I did not create any automation to this track. I use Tyrell N6. Could this be a bug ? Please help. This is so frustrating. Thanks !

EDIT : I managed to find the problem with Tyrell n6 filters. Its related to the stop button in Renoise. If I press it  the filters will jump down to 0. Im sure this is not normal.

V-Spacing and H-Spacing (Vertical and Horizontal spacing) smaller than

Renoise Forum - January 12, 2019 - 23:44

Need to change V-Spacing and H-Spacing if GUI (Vertical and Horizontal spacing) smaller than Zero. How i can do that? Need to capture video to fit as much information as possible into the pattern.

I found how change font size whatever you want in *:\Program Files\Renoise 3.1.0\Resources\Skin\Fonts\Config.xml by change strings with "<Size>10,10</Size>".

Is it possible to change the same method v-spacing and h-spacing?
