Xorg Server Error when running Renoise (linux)

December 14, 2021 - 16:51

Nvidia 1660 super
Ryzen 5 3600x
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

I have posted about this on the Arch linux forums but I haven’t found a fix so I’m hoping there is someone here who knows about linux and what is causing these Errors.

When Renoise is open I get a “Fatal Server Error”, which leads to me needing to reboot.
This only happens when I have Renoise open.
I am using JACK audio sync and have a Scarlett 2i2 Interface and an Alesis v49 MIDI controller plugged in.

This is my Xorg.0.log

Pastebin Xorg.0.log - Pastebin.com

Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.

This is the journal from the journalctl -kb -1 command

Pastebin Xorg1234 - Pastebin.com

Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mysterious Path (new-age/healing)

December 14, 2021 - 12:02

It’s really been a while I didn’t composed a new-age track, but here that come finally

With samples recorded from my RAV Vast (steel tongue drum), native bamboo flute, rainmaker, small darbuka.
Made with Renoise, even if I made small retakes with Ableton live to fix some things.

Again, an even more ideal way to randomize phase/audio offset

December 14, 2021 - 02:11

I was posting something on Ideas and Suggestions subforum seeking a more robust way of phase offsetting and it got me thinking of another approach within the limits of Renoise. So, we’ll combine two simple concepts/exploits and to achieve a little bit more robust way of doing random offsets/phase:

  • Multi-phrases, each having their range of offsets between 0-255 (0x00 to 0xFF), divisible by the value of 12 (0x0C). Since you only can have 12 columns, you’ll need to create 23 phrases to cover all possible offsets.

  • Macro within a Doofer. Similar to what’s seen here, the doofer will contain the FX chain in the following order:
Key Tracker → LFO → Hydra → Instr. Macro

    • Key Tracker: Dest. Min and Max set to 0, Range is between C-0 to B-9, and the Dest. is set to LFO’s Reset
    • LFO: Amplitude set to 100%, Offset set to 50%, Frequency set to INF LPC, Random waveform is selected, and the Desti. is set to Hydra’s Input
    • Hydra: Out 1 is mapped to Instru. Macro’s Phrase Program, where the range is set to 1-23

  • Optional but suggested.

    • Create sliders on the Doofer where one can attach the Start and End Range off the Hydra’s range input.
    • The Dry/Wet Attaches onto the LFO’s Amplitude (0 to 100%) and Offset (0 to 50%)

Undoing A/B clicks of VST2/3 devices does not work as expected

December 13, 2021 - 21:27

Hi,

if you use a VST2/3 plugin and store one setting to A and another different setting to B, then click A and then B again and then undo, it says “Recall compare preset B was undone”, but actually nothing will happen/change. It should restore then all settings to A but it does not.

Sunnk Interview and Track Breakdown in Renoise (neuroglitch)

December 13, 2021 - 19:48

Completely missed this interview with @TwoThreeZero Was very interesting for me. Seeing a different approach to use Renoise inspires me alot:

Mutant Breaks #12 Competitions & Collaborations hello here is mine back in april 2019, i helped release a free sample pack as part of https://glitch.cool, an assemblage of musicians, visual artists, programmers, etc. orbiting the glitch genre. this track uses only samples from this pack and its contributors, as well as some others from tusk mite and woulg. these are my friends and this track is made out of them. all effects are native renoise, but there’s an ozone on the master channel. there’s a marked limiter you can switch on if you d…

Feature Request for phrases: 0 LPB and Random Offset Per Key Press

December 13, 2021 - 18:03

This sounds odd, but hear me out:
-Everytime I press a key for an instrument, I want to randomize the offset/phase of a soundwave
-Currently the solution to do this is create a non-repeating phrase that’s single line and uses maYbe commands.

-The problem with this approach is the instrument engine only allows 12 notes to be played.
-There’s no way to jump lines in phrases.

So if I was given power to achieve what I wanting to do, this is what has to happen:
-LPB needs to be 0
-Instrument allows each press to be random
-But most importantly you can use this phrase to achieve the goal I’m seeking

VST and VST3 Automation

December 13, 2021 - 17:06

Hello everyone,

I am currently testing the Demo of Renoise and im absolutely loving it so far.

There is one specific issue I am dealing with so far though and couldn’t find much info about it in the manual and in the forum … Automation.
Coming from a Ableton and Fl-Studio Background im super used to being able to control parameters of 3rd party software as automation as example:

I create a typical Deadmau5 ish arp sound in Serum and assign the filter cutoff and decay time to my macro1. How do i automate that in the timeline like i do with dsp effects so i can open it up over time?

I found several forum entries talking about the instr. Automation add on but that one doesent nearly contain all parameters and is a pain to navigate.

Being used to just “learn” the macro controls in a daw the parameter im clicking its super confusing for me.

I also saw that in the plugin tab there are macro controls but they are greyed out. Is there a specific way to assign stuff to them?

Sorry if i just overread it in the manual but this is the only thing bugging me out so far.

Thanks you in advance and have a great day!

Wave shell crash solution

December 13, 2021 - 10:35

I finally have sorted my problem out with waveshells and renoise,I’m sure there is people that might benefit from this in the forums here,so maybe this could be pinned as a potential solution for some people.

First, uninstall:

  1. Launch Waves Central.
  2. Go to the Settings page in the bottom left corner.
  3. Under Maintenance, look for Uninstall and click the drop-down menu.
  4. Checkmark all the available version entries and click Uninstall.
  5. Quit Waves Central.
  6. Go to C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the Waves folder.
  7. Press [Win key]+R, type %AppData% and hit Enter.
  8. In the Roaming folder that shows, drag the Waves Audio folder to your desktop.
  9. Press [Win key]+R, type **%LocalAppData%**and hit Enter. In the window that shows, delete the Waves Audio folder.
  10. Press [Win key]+R, type **%ProgramData%**and hit Enter. In the window that shows, delete the Waves Audio folder.
  11. Delete any WaveShell files you find in the following locations (if exist):
  • C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-ins
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ DigiDesign\DAE\Plug-Ins
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\WPAPI

Now to re-install:

  1. Download and install Central.
  2. Run Central and log in.
  3. Go to the Install Products page in the top left corner.
  4. Under My Products, checkmark the products you wish to install.
  5. Click Install on the bottom right.

Make sure to follow every step here exactly as stated.

Run plugins in sandboxes option must be enabled.*

This option is under renoise preferences,plug-ins,make sure to tick the box.

That’s it,all my plugins work fine now.No more crashes.Hope this helps someone out there because I know how frustrating waves can be.

Question about ReWire implementation (for the Renoise devs!)

December 13, 2021 - 07:46

Hi, I am not sure if this is offtopic or here,

But I have a question for you Renoise devs. How are the ReWire transport requests (play/stop/position) that are sent from Renoise synced to the mixer DAW? Is there a formula that compensates the time between issuing a pattern restart and the end of the RWDEFDriveAudio call? Or is the position just set to 0?

Much love,
Maxim

Renoise quick scans VSTs, doesn't include some in plugins tab

December 12, 2021 - 00:24

I’ve done the obvious to begin with:
*Un- and reinstalled latest Renoise ver, tried some older ones too
*My prefered VST folder is D:\x128, but I’ve tried installing VST and Renoise in default C:\ location
*Deleted plugin caches in %AppData%

Having problems with Scaler VST from plugin boutique. Like the title says-- in the quick scan for plugins
scaler.dll is actually read in the bottom left corner but doesn’t appear in plugin tab. I have tab expanded, no hidden devices.
Other VSTs work without a hitch. Could it be that the plugin is MIDI-specific? Had it working for months before I can’t get it recognized anymore for the life of me.
I was surprised when I tried installing InstaChord which was less preferred and it too didn’t get put in plugins tab.

Am at wits end.

Duplex - Assign 2 groupnames to mappings

December 11, 2021 - 23:33

I have two sets of dials in my controlmap.xml that I want to map to parameters of the Effect application. I’ve tried all sorts of combinations, but I can’t get the syntax right

So my question is, how can I assign group_name twice for DialSet01 and DIalSet02? As you can see I’ve tried to separate two groups with a comma, but that doesn’t work.

Effect = { mappings = { parameters = { group_name = "DialSet 01","DialSet 02" }, } },

Drums filter sweep?

December 11, 2021 - 04:33

Hi, can anybody tell me how to achieve this kind of classic drum & bass/ jungle drums filter sweep / EQ sweep?

example at 2.22 sec of this video total science - method - YouTube

(Ideally I’d want to be able to program it with commands in the fx columns)

…Im currently playing with Envelope commands for Cut Off envelope in the sample modulation, with some Okay results but lacking the resonance so probably needs some Macros setup.

also I’m aware of the Sample smoothing method, of repeatedly duplicating and smoothing the sample. Filtered drum rolls, how it was made historically?

Thoughts?

Just Intonation Piano | Lissajous Curves

December 8, 2021 - 00:44

I made Just Intonation Piano - using Lissajous Curves - because I can https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lissajous_curve

I Panned root note to Left, then following semitones to the Right - and in the Renoise oscilloscope one can see the Curves/Figures.

I attempted to find the nearest fine-tuning match for a given semitone - so, that relating to root note C, it creates a stable curve in the oscilloscope. There is a bit of jittering because, I guess, of the limits for fine-tuning resolution available - 1/128.

Try playing C + E or C +G.

C Major sounds good imho.

If you want to play with other root note - change the Instrument Global Pitch semitones, e.g. C → D is 2 semitones up, etc etc.

Clear snapshots?

December 7, 2021 - 12:24

Is it possible to clear the snapshots(a/b)?

I have a doofer (2 snaps) linked to a convolver (2 snaps)
Each convolver preset and snapshot containing a ir sample.
Now there are a total of 9 ir samples that are saved and therefore slowing down the save speed.

Thanks in advance
