Basic idea is to make the instrument editor meta devices (envelope generator, stepper, etc.) global and work like current meta devices do like the LFO with routing options and such. It makes things like sound design more complex and not tied to individual instruments or the globalized automation editor.

Hi I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my all time heroes a few weeks ago: CJ Bolland!

The interview is due to go live tomorrow - but here’s a secret pre-release link for the Renoise community.

Heres the lowdown:

Episode 33 speaking to instrumental Techno producer CJ Bolland! He’s realeased some of the most iconic electronic tracks ever made, including The Prophet, Camargue and Tower Of Naphtali - as well as having a remix on the Prodigy’s No Good single and many others for Depeche Mode, Orbital, Moby and New Order.

He made the title track for the 90s clubbing film ‘Human Traffic’ - ‘It Aint Gonna Be Me’ with one of his greatest dancefloor tracks on the B-Side: Desolate 1. His track ‘Sugar Is Sweeter’ got the remix treatment from Armand Van Helden and became a worldwide dancefloor hit.

We discuss his early influences, his musical journey and the people, studios and stories which formed his incredible and influential sound.

I dont if its a bug or not but when I put a distortion on a track with a kick drum its just works on every second kick drum. Its just like BOOM, boom, BOOM, boom. Very strange. Its just work on all kick drums right?

I create song and I noticed some samples get corrupted at some point. The playback is messed up, especially at the beginning. If I save the instrument and load it in new project it plays fine. Has anyone experienced this?

It happened in Renoise 3.3.1 on MacOS Catalina.

Ever considered doing some type of pulse width “modulation” natively in Renoise? It got the tools to do it…just don’t expect exact ratio/percentile control.
Pretty simple process:

• Within an instrument you’ll lay down 3 FX chains
• “Input” chain sends the same audio to two other FX chains.
  
• “Inverse” chain inverts the audio signal and uses the delay DSP to modulate the delayed audio signal. A Hydra DSP or Macro is recommended for controlling the delay L/R offset parameters. Note that you’ll need to mute the source to not amplify the original signal. The Send parameter can be modulate to act as a “Dry/Wet” parameter. Be sure you place a gainer FX on the track to invert the audio.
  
  -Lastly the “Mixdown” chain to mix both audio signals into one.

As I said earlier, it’s not precise due to the fact ever note operates at a different frequency. You’re modulating the time it takes for a signal to invert and play instead. So technically speaking this is more of a “pulse width time modulation method” but it gets to the point. Beyond that caveat it’s a nifty trick for certain applications if you find you need it.

I’m having trouble linking the plugin Bassynth by Wave Alchemy to Renoise. I watched the plugin tutorial and everything seems to be set up correctly in the plugin preferences and I’m pretty sure I made the file pathways correct. My setup is in the attached photo to further convey my problem. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

So I bought an app called Velocity Keyboard, which apparently has MPE support. Though I connected my iPad Air 3 to my gaming desktop, the app doesn’t recognize it as a Bluetooth MIDI destination, so doesn’t Audiobus. Do I need to install a driver. I just want to try out the MPE features of Newfangled Audio’s Generate without having to buy a Linnstrument.

On my recent projects I’ve been making use of an old MIDI module that relies on program change commands to initialize and switch patches on MIDI channels. I do this via the M2 pattern command. For certain channels (which I’ve assigned to individual instruments), I like to create phrases when I need to do something that’s not feasible in the regular pattern mode, and switch to keymap mode and assign the phrases to notes that I know I won’t use for melodic purposes.

Now the problem. Since I use the M2 command at the start to initialize patches on every channel, this also causes the corresponding instruments that contain phrase data to switch to using that phrase (or the closest one to it) in program mode, which makes it affect every note. This is undesirable behavior, so does anyone know how to disable it?

In the case that it’s not possible, does anyone know an efficient workaround? Currently I’ve thought of two, but I can’t use them for one reason or another:

1. Place Z7F commands on every note I don’t want a phrase to activate on (way too time consuming)

2. Insert a series of system exclusive messages in the beginning of the song to disable program change message receiving on all necessary channels on the module, then place M2 7F commands after that (hypothetical, as Renoise doesn’t natively support sysex insertions and I don’t yet have a method of doing this in real time)

I would prefer:

• free choice of the daw
• free choice of the style

I don’t care about prices. My goal is just to find some cool contests to have fun. Something with stems or sample packs. And deadlines around 1 or 2 months. Does it exist?
