Learning the UI (or not)
Hello all.
I’m excited to get to using Renoise as I recently found out about the tracker workflow and have always wondered how Jungle was made - there was a real lightbulb moment when I realised. I guess it should have been somewhat obvious, hehe.
I’m on a PC, but seem to be having major issues getting used to the foundations of the UI - mouse functions that are ubiquitous across programs and platforms such as click & drag, double clicking or click to select seem to be repurposed in Renoise, but sometimes they aren’t.
Perhaps it’s my ‘old dog’ mentality, but it’s proper getting on my nerves! It’s as though any creativity I have is being stifled by having to realearn how to use a bloody computer, let alone the program.
So, my question is, has anyone encountered a good way of learning the ‘new way’ the mouse works in Renoise? Mods, videos etc, etc.
I’m perfectly willing to learn in order to get what I want done, but I just thought I’d ask people in the know before beginning an endless search of the internet.

No way to hide all FX columns with keys?
Every other column can be easily hidden with a keyboard shortcut, but it seems you need to use the mouse to get rid of the very last FX column (i.e. when there is only one). Maybe it would make sense for the “Decrease Number of Columns” shortcut to do this.
I could be missing something, as I vaguely remember some obscure key shortcut that hides all unused columns?

Hello,
So, on the impulse of Achenar after watching his video about creating industrial sound (thanks),
I sat down and added some information to my tool and I am also releasing it.
Tool is based on “IXA” synthesis, but since this technology is patented,
it is just my attempt to get closer to it (I’m kidding, I modified it again according to how it suits me).
I try to create industrial and other technical sounds from the field of electrosmog.

AI can create Renoise Tools from scratch
I’m developing a tool right now using Grok, X’s AI. ChatGPT and Grok both seem capable of creating full-fledged Renoise Tools from scratch if you tell them what you want them to do and how they should work.
I got a lot of errors at first, but I fed those back into the AI, and it was able to figure out its own mistakes and eventually make working tools for me. I was about to give up on Grok programming my tool when I fed its script to ChatGPT, and ChatGPT immediately identified the problem, which I then sent back to Grok.
By no means a seamless process, but it does work.
There is a lot of flexibility—you can even ask it, “Do you have any ideas to improve my tool?” and it will offer all sorts of suggestions.
Worth checking out. You don’t need to know anything about coding at all.

5s max delay time
Hey folks,
I’m working on a live looper made out of native devices, and the 5 second max delay time in Multitap Delay isn’t enough time for the applications I have in mind. Anybody know a workaround?

Midi Mapping fails because of pitch bend
I have the midi controller M-VAVE SMC-Mixer.
Midimapping works great - except the sliders!.
They are delivering pitch wheel values instead of control messages.
Is there any way to get this working in Renoise?

Hi, I'm new. Would like some feedback on my Renoise tracks
I’ve been working on music solely in Renoise for around 5 months now in my spare time. I’ve also recently picked up TouchDesigner to try and add audio-reactive visuals. If any of you could give my youtube playlist a listen and give me some feedback. Perhaps there are Renoise features that I should start using or maybe my mixing feels off in certain tracks. Just let me know. I just want to get better at making music in Renoise and in general. I also want to further develop my own style. Maybe there are even some techniques you all could inform me about. Any Free General Midi VST or equivalent Synth?
I want the General Midi sounds, like in some Dungeon Synth or Ambient BM. I do not expect full concert hall quality fidelity - if it sounds like 2000s Casio it’s ok. I can throw some Chorus, Reverb and filter stuff.

How to have "Draw" always on in External Editor of Stepper device?
Hi, I use a multitude of Stepper tools in Instruments. such as
Volume Stepper, Pitch Stepper, Pan Stepper, Drive Stepper, Cutoff Stepper, Resonance Stepper.
but, when i switch between the Steppers, the “DRAW” mode is always OFF. how do i force the “DRAW” mode to always be ON?
as regards shortcuts, these are the only things that reference Draw. one is for drawing in Automation, one is for i guess drawing in sample. i tried the Toggle Draw Mode in Sample Editor, while in Pitch Stepper External Editor, and nothing happened.
how do i proceed?

Hello,
I just released this experimental sample creation tool.
The oscillator simulates harmonic oscillations with different frequencies, phases,
and frequency ratios for the X, Y, and Z axes.
How Does It Work?
- The oscillator has three “axes” (X, Y, Z), each oscillating at different frequencies (speeds of oscillation).
- Users can set:
- Frequency: How fast the oscillator oscillates (e.g., higher frequency = higher pitch).
- Frequency Ratios: How the oscillation speeds differ between axes (e.g., the Y-axis can oscillate twice as fast as the X-axis).
- Phase: The starting position of the oscillation (e.g., whether the wave starts at its peak or zero).
- Feedback: How much the previous signal “feeds back” to influence the new one (this can create interesting effects like distorted sound).
- Attack and Decay: How quickly the signal rises (gets louder) and falls (gets quieter).

Xfer Serum2 VST3 UI stutter in Renoise
Whenever the Serum2 UI is open and there are animated elements, the Renoise UI starts to stutter and the Serum2 UI stutters as well. I know that Reason 13 had similar issues and they’re currently tweaking their VST3 implementation in the latest beta because of that. Apparently, the Xfer developer is in touch with the Reason Studios devs about it. There’s a demo version of Serum2 available, so it should be reproducible with that. Not sure if this is just happening on my end or if it might be a more general issue.

Vital envelope resets when trying to render song to disc
I noticed that something sounded off about the song when I exported it. I found that the Vital envelope gets reset when I click the Start button. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Feature request: focus track DSP pane from editor
Hey,
I’d like to be able to hit CMD+F in the editor and focus on track DSP pane for following combo:
- enter some notes
- hit cmd+f
- type eq, use arrows + tab + enter to add fx to track
- …
additional: can we remove need to have to press ‘tab’ after typing fx name to switch from search bar focus to the actual fx?
what would i expect:
- type name in search bar
- (skip tab part)
- use arrow to go down and select plugin
