Adding a new note also adds a "6f" for volume. Can I change that?
Hello there,
always when I enter a new note in the editor, the
volume is automatically set to 6F.
That is very anoying, whey you f.e. have a lot of notes,
and you ONLY want to cahnge the pitch, an NOT the volume.
So the volume will be overwritten with 6F.
Can I change it or set it somewhere?
Kind regards
Joachim

My renoise view is weird and i really need help
i am new to renoise and i’m really eager to learn it, but the view is not like the ones i see in youtube tutorials. for example my disk browser and instrument selection is on the top instead of on the left. i am also missing the edit, mix, midi, plugin buttons on the top right. this is making following tutorials very hard. Ive pressed about every button asked on reddit and looked it up everywhere but i’ve got no answer. can someone please help?

What's your go-to generic instrument set?
I like to start composing first before I think about the instrument sounds. It’s a problem I’ve had with trackers (or the odd DAW I touched) before, It’s easy to get lost in the plethora of instruments or samples to choose from and by the time I would have figured it out, ideas have faded. I understand many people like to create beats or sounds first and get inspiration from there, but I prefer setting up the rough framework for the whole piece before diving into the sound design.
The solution I have come up with so far is to use the Microsoft MIDI instruments. It has more than enough instruments and some are a good placeholder until I find a better option. And they’re built-in the OS. They come with limitations, you can’t use effects on them.
I wonder what your go-to options are for a generic instrument set. I’d be happy to know about things that provide the usual band outfit (bass, drums, guitar, keyboards including piano and synth sounds) from which you can then, at some point, start replacing them one by one. I’m not necessarily looking for high quality, just versatility.

Idea: Fixed volume/velocity works for midi input, too
Renoise has this fancy option:
But this seems to work only for (computer-)keyboard input. It also simply could work for any midi input. So you
a) hear the fixed velocity on any live played input
b) record / write only notes with given fixed velocity
This all of course only, if the option is enabled. Or does this already work?

Integrating Renoise into other DAW/Workflow
Howdo, hope you are all well.
Getting Renoise into my workflow is an ongoing goal for me. I love Renoise, tracking is in my blood. I am sure you can relate.
For a while I was using a bizarre arrangement where, via ReWire, I’d got Renoise and Ableton Live coupled as my composing setup, feeding into Reaper for mixing and stuff. This worked pretty well but, invariably I ended up just going back to using Ableton Live. This is because Live, for me at least, feels right and is a reasonable compromise all things considered.
Then along came Redux! Hooray I thought… But not quite. Triggering patterns via MIDI or whatever was cumbersome. It was way better with Renoise slaved to Ableton via Rewire. Then I could just set up so wherever I was in my ableton project, Renoise would shuttle no problems. So back to that.
Then Ableton Link support! Nope, this doesnt really help too much in my case.
All I really need is Renoise to slave to another DAW … transport/timeline 1:1 … but future proofed where ReWire is seemingly on the way out.
I really hoped that Redux was the answer but a phrase sampler is not the same as Renoise+Another DAW in perfect sync.
I was hoping that Renoise could be a VST3 plug … or CLAP or something that would integrate seamlessly.

Plugin Grabber Round Robin Option
Would love to see a Round Robin option along with the keymapping and velocity layers. Decent round robin instruments sound a lot more alive on sources that fluctuate - physical models, virtual analog and the like.

Drone Note once triggered
I am searching a way to trigger a note just once in a pattern.
No Note Off and no Retrigger after its looping. I know it would be possible with 2 Sequenced Pattern, but its not comfortable. Thinking about in combination with Phrases and polymetric stuff.
Is there a way?

Features acapella samples from Looperman.com. Fairly odd, even for my standards, but I had the most unholy abomination of a day so here I stand. Be good to know another human being with a soul is alive on the planet.

Labeling fx column
As the title suggests, is it possible to label the fx columns? Let’s say you automate lots of dsp properties in a track and to make it a bit easy I use several fx columns. Is there anyway to label them? So by looking at them I know which parameter is automated?
Or maybe another workaround to make it organized?

Player timing issues?
I’ve always had an occasional problem with phrases not playing correctly. This time I thought it’s time to post on the forum since it’s degrading my quality of life!
Here is an example of a looping pattern with three chord voices triggered with Z02 Z03 Z04: Dropbox - phraseerror.mp3 - Simplify your life
1: ok
2: glitch
3: ok
4: almost ok… strange attack suggests something is happening with the envelopes?
5 glitch
I always thought it was due to my ‘soundcard stutters’ (buffers) that I’ve had a problem with, but it turns out this error is also audible when rendering to file. Perhaps even more so, as even the normal Gxx effect seems to get timing issues when rendering.
Is there some workaround or some mistake i’m making? I’m hoping to get to the bottom of this, finally.

Correction of `Jx` and `-Jxx` fonts on Effect Command reference card (not to be confused with lx and Ix)
The font of -Jxx and -Jx commands in the following Effect Command reference card is confusing with lower case l and upper case I. I think it should be corrected.

Meta tracking for any parameter s
Hello
Can not understand. Is there a tool in renoise for tracking this or that parameter for subsequent transfer of values to another tool?
Thnx
as an example: some note detectors have the ability to transmit midi data. the challenge is to use them.

Korg VST3's & other plug-ins not fully displaying
Recently got most of my software installed on a new laptop, but I notice Renoise won’t display the full window for Korg plug-ins and a few Native Instrument VSTs. Others will display without issue, and these same plug-ins load fine in other DAWs. Anyone encountered this before?

Mixing - what is the best approach to set volume & panning?
Hello, I’m new to Renoise. Prefer it so far to other DAWs because I’ve messed about with trackers a bit back in the 90s. FWIW, I’m mostly interested in creating heavy rock / pop songs and want to make sure I can get the balance right (not sure if this is relevant, but it appears some electronic music genres are heavy on channels and effects than others and need every trick in the book - I’m glad with straightforward, clear and balanced).
My question concerns with mixing channels, specifically volume & panning. From what I can see there are a plethora of places where you can set the volume & panning of a track, or instruments in a track, especially when using VST instruments:
- Not counting key velocity, there are often volume and panning controls in the VST instrument itself (not to mention there can be multiple instruments in a channel, but I prefer to dedicate channels to instruments)
- You can set the volume for the channel in the pre mixer…
- And then again in the post-mixer before it goes to master / another bus
- You can set volume & panning in any bus, affecting whatever is routed through there
- You can set volume & panning in some of the effects, either native or 3rd-party plugin, that comes in between pre- and post mixers.
I’m utterly confused what the correct workflow should be when I get down to mixing, the sheer number of options feel like mixing could end up in a tweak without end.
I’m interested to know if there is a flow or if there are tips to keep things simple or manageable - like not bothering with volume and panning in certain places, or maxing out values in mixers.
Thanks for reading =)
