(BUG) with "custom_dialog"? & [Windows Down] keyboard command
@Raul wrote:
W10 x64 & R3.2.0 x64 & windows tool
I really didn’t know what title to put in this error…
I describe the steps directly:
- Create a simple tool window. Use renoise.app():show_custom_dialog()
- Create a shortcut to invoke the tool. Use: renoise.tool():add_menu_entry(). As:
renoise.tool():add_menu_entry {
name = “Main Menu:Tools:Name_Tool”, – Pi
invoke = function() main_dialog_tool() end
} - Open the window tool from the menu shortcut (Main Menu:Tools:Name_Tool).
- Press [WINDOWS DOWN] keyboard command. Then the tool acquires this minimized look:
- Reopen the window tool from the menu shortcut (Main Menu:Tools:Name_Tool).
- Then a strange error appears about custom_dialog:
std::logic_error: ‘custom_dialog: expected a valid, visible content view.’
Is there any way to avoid this error? That is, prevent the meu shortcut from doing anything!
It seems an internal custom_dialog error related to the use of the Windows window.
I can’t find a way to detect this state to avoid it. The function responsible for opening the window is defined in main_dialog_tool(), using renoise.app():show_custom_dialog()
Any idea how to avoid this, or should it be resolved within the API?

Music visualizer for YouTube
@Fabrice wrote:
I see a lot of musics posted on YouTube with some kind of photo/effects/titles (with sometime good or bad results).
But I am searching for a simple one, with not too much effects. Does anyone could recommend somes softwares or web app, free or not?
(except iMovie wich is not bad, but do not make music visualisation)

[Bug] Renoise 3.2 - Small Spectrogram rendering issue

Small Bug: I’m using Renoise with 125% scaling on Windows 10. When you move the divider between Spectogram and the Tracker, then the Spectogram rendering gets distorted:

Unison effect in renoise?
@Kooshan wrote:
There is a Unison effect in Reason which duplicates the incoming audio 4,8 or 16 times , then detune and pan each one of them . Obviously we don’t have such effect in Renoise but can I replicate that?
I know i could duplicate the sample and detune ,pan each one , but how could i do this by using the effects? Unfortunatly we don’t have any pitchshifter in renoise , so is there any native way to do this?
I would like to have a doofer or a patch to save and load that to any sample of my choice .

What can Renoise do that Ableton can't?
@podf wrote:
Let me preface by stating that I’m geniunely fascinated by music production software, and that I by no means prefer this over that or whatever. I’ve used them all, and I guess I’ll continue to for a long while.
That being said (out of pure curiosity); what is in your opinion something that Renoise can do (or does very well) that Ableton can’t?
Cheers!

Free collection of Amen break processed through vintage gear
@podf wrote:
I stumbled over this one yesterday when trying to find nice resources for jungle breaks.
Used gear: Akai S1100, Akai MPC1000, Roland VP-9000, Yamaha SU700, AU 176, Colours Audio VG1, DBX 160, Neve 2254, Roland RE-150, Sound Skulptor, TG Limiter, DIY Tube Saturator.
My hope is to find more packs like this, with classic breaks processed through the old school samplers - so I don’t have to go get them myself (even though I’d very much like too I bet there’s some serious $$$ drainage involved, and my SO won’t be very happy about it I reckon!)
Anyone else got stuff like this? Please share!

Previewing slices in the Sampler!
@podf wrote:
Hello, people!
I’ve been producing music for a while but haven’t used a tracker since I started out about 20 years ago (in MadTracker). Fun times, but anyway - I’ve been looking up how to chop breaks in Renoise in hope of learning breakcore/jungle production techniques, and it didn’t take long before I saw something I wasn’t able to follow along with…
Specifically, the awesome Bizzy B (in this video) is teaching how to chop a break, and while doing that he seems to be able to use his MIDI or computer keyboard to preview slices in the Sampler while staying in the main window of the Sampler where all the slices are visible - for example at 3:30 in the video. When I try to do that, the window changes to show just the slice I’m previewing, and I can’t seem to get that nice overview where I can both edit the start point at the slice and play it at the same time.
Any idea what I might do wrong?
Cheers!

Renoise as audio editor?
@snaper wrote:
Hi Guys,
Usually, I’m a Live user, but since 2.something I have Renoise as well, actually, in 2013-2014 I finished a whole album only in Renoise, released on the legendary Entropy Records.
The thing is that these days I use Renoise only as an audio editor.
To be honest, it is the MOST STABLE audio editor for Mac right now…I mean, for easy and basic tasks, like, cut, copy, paste, reverse, loop, maximise, etc.
Today, I used it a lot and I was wondering, why don’t you make a “spin-off”, a small, quick app?

Newbie: How to get Renoise Instruments to stop playing a melody which I didn't create
@zklaus wrote:
Switched over the Linux a couple of weeks ago and figured I’d make Renoise my new DAW. One quesiton: if i select an Instrument, it gives me an instrument to play BUT it’s playing some riff/phrase that I didn’t create.
How do I stop this? Linux lacks VST’s so I need the Renoise Instruments, just not the preset melodies.

Latest Windows 10 update breaks Renoise
@k-rai wrote:
Hey folks, I sent this as a direct message to support but wanted to post on here too in case anyone knows anything about it:
I just wanted to let you know that the latest Windows 10 update breaks Renoise, specifically the 64 bit version.
In fact I had to install and revert to the 32 bit version, which luckily seems OK for the time being.
I can’t find any information on forums or elsewhere regarding Windows 10 but came across people have similar problems with other OS.
It all started with when I started getting this message after the recent update:
Internal Error: Failed to connect to the external audio plugin process (could not establish a connection to the server).
The problem seems to be VST plugins, all of which used to work fine and now none of them do and will crash Renoise when attempting to load any song that uses them, which is much of my material. After trying to rescan and having it crash now I can’t even open the 64 bit version to try other settings as it will just take infinitely long to load, hang and stop responding. Please be aware of it.
P.S. Windows 10 is also telling me that I should be running both versions in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

Render and slice based on notes?
@Unhek wrote:
Is there a way to render a phrase/pattern to a wav and then immediately slice this recording to fit the notes used in the pattern?
I’d like to have the ability to play with the recorded notes and make new patterns etc, but right now have to set slice points manually.
Any tools or thoughts on this?
I found a topic on a render to slice tool which seems to do exactly this but there is no download link anywhere…:C

Here is a small fantasy-EDM track, even I’ve spend some hours on it!

Fully composed in Renoise 3.1 yet, I want to finish some tracks before making the jump in 3.2.

Update tools request
@darnellisatwork wrote:
I’ve been using Renoise since 2.7. My recent album “Rushware” was written, produced and mixed in Renoise. I LOVE RENOISE WITH A PASSION!!!
My only gripe:
User-made add-ons are never compatible with the updates. Every time the new version of Renoise comes out, I have to hope and pray that the users who made the tools, of which my workflow is heavily based around, decide to make a new version that works with the Renoise update. And if they don’t, then I have to choose between my deeply effective and efficient workflow and the new features.
Why can’t Renoise have a standardized system where all the user-made tools work, regardless of the Renoise version?
Example: Ableton’s user-made Max for Live tools work on any version of Ableton that supports Max for Live. The tools from Live 10 don’t just stop working on Live 10.1 and so on. Why can’t Renoise have the same type of compatibility with its tools?

Silly Question About Bluetooth Monitoring
@Username-Denied wrote:
I’ve just started using Renoise after messing around with FL Studio for awhile. One thing I had gotten used to in FL was being able to connect to my phone to watch tutorial videos and connect to my computer to input and montior using the same one (left) earbud.
With Renoise I haven’t been able to do this and I can’t work out why? It’s seems that even though the earbud is connected to both I get no audio from my phone, Renoise seems to dominate the audio signal instead of sharing it like FL, how do I change this in the preferences?
Also I’ve noticed the signal is quite distorted until I disconnect and reconnect without my phone connected so Renoise has full access to the Bluetooth signal. Like I said FL there wasn’t a problem but I do not blame the programme I know it is just me not knowing how to set Renoise up properly.
FYI, the Bluetooth one earbud set up is due to producing with my wife and infant in the same room, so I have to be able to pay attention to what’s going around me, at least a little bit, lol
Thank you

Multiple alias targets for instruments
@toimp wrote:
I want to use LFOTool as midi triggered sidechain. It works in Renoise, but i need an instrument for each LFOTool i use in the song. It would be better, when i’ve just one kick midi trigger instrument for all kick related LFOTools in my song. For this, it would be needed to set more than one plugin aliases in Renoise.
This would also allow us to create Layer instruments, which one instrument triggers several instruments at once. When non plugin instruments would be added to this list, then we could also build layers from sample based Renoise instruments.
Some related topics:
Control multiple instruments via one instrument Tips & Tricks
…so, if i load an already existing module, there’s no way to just “assign” several new instruments to an instrument playing in the module, i have to copy&paste all the tracks and remap the instrument numbers?
Multiple Midi Instruments, In One Instrument ? Ideas & suggestions
I’ve got two midi modules that I would like to “layer” together.
In other words using one sound from one module and the one sound from the other.
You can do it right now by copying the same pattern data using two instruments. But it would be realy nice to be able to create a layered instrument.
Or some way to assign one track to multiple instruments.
