Orlein - Renoise Playthrough
Hi
I made this Renoise “Playthrough” video for some friends to look at, so I thought I might as well share it here as well.
Feels like I could still do quite a bit more work on it. I’m not sure that the start of the track really fits with where it ends up going by the end.
All sounds are produced with Renoise only. Mostly with hand drawn single cycle waves.

BPM Value Box changes value for every new (empty) song
Hi there,
everytime i launch Renoise and a new empty project opens, the BPM Value is different.
Example: first launch: 120 bpm, I close renoise. 2nd launch: 145 bpm, I close renoise. 3rd lauch 115 bpm, I close renoise. 4th launch 140 and so on.
I do not use a template at the moment
Is this a funny feature which i activated by accident?
Cheers

How to use Renoise as my guitar effects when playing live?
That’s probably a stupid question but what I would love to do, is to be able to apply the native renoise effects ( and/or any vst effects I installed) on the sound input of my sound card. That way I would be able to record my guitar with the effects, or play live with the effects.

MilkyTracker Chiptune Video(s)
Hey ya’ll, I’m gonna be uploading a handful of videos of my old MilkyTracker chiptunes. I’ll just update this topic as I add more videos. Here’s the first one:
All the tracks are gonna be old ones from back in 2013, when I was releasing them under the name Vaina Moinen. You can also download the XM files themselves here:
https://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_artist_modules&query=93149
I recommend playing them in MilkyTracker instead of Renoise. I’ve tried using them in Renoise and they just don’t play back accurately.
Thanks for looking/listening!

> 60% with empty song
Hi there,
I have some major issues with the cpu load lately. It goes up to 60% and beyond while playing empty songs.
I’v e played around with the settings like;
changing the number of cores
changing the GUI frame rate
changing the audio driver
changing the audio driver buffers
And nothing helped to solve it.
Does anyone have tips to look at?
Kind regards Mario

What effects to use in send tracks?
Hello friends.Another day another question. So tell me how to use the send tracks properly,
should i not add any effects in the track itself and add delay reverb only in send tracks?Should i eq/compress only in the send tracks?
How to distribute my instruments in the send tracks, one for synths one for bass etc?
And a plugin question, should i disable the reverb and delay in the plugin and use Renoise effects in the track or send track?

Render Problem: 'Failed to open the file SongPath\song.wav'
Hello!
I have a little problem when rendering. After pressing start, it says: Failed to open the file Songpath\Song.wav.
It came out of nowhere, the day before, everything worked fine! The only thing i did was adding one VST (MGF Timewarp). However i tried removing it, but the same error occured. Reinstalling also didn’t help, although i updated fro 3.2.0 to 3.2.2! Also, i tried all different rendering options, nothing helped!
Did you encounter a similar problem once? I didn’t find anything on the forum to this particular error message.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

How to use LFO + GAINER: Tremolo and Volume ducking levels can be too much (-166 db) should be -around- -12 dB to -6 dB to even less
For use with
LFO > GAINER
LFO > HYDRA > GAINER
PATTERN COMMAND TO LFO RESET > LFO > HYDRA > GAINER
SIGNAL FOLLOWER TO LFO RESET > LFO > HYDRA > GAINER
VELOCITY TRACKER TO LFO RESET > LFO > HYDRA > GAINER
in the device lane, at the bottom of the screen, on the left, there is a list of internal Renoise effect and meta devices.
the triangular icon at the left bottom shows and hides the device lane.
you can, from there, search the effect and meta devices.
LFO
(double click to add, or drag to the device lane)
can have a custom enveloppe. Click the Custom button in the LFO.
you can then set the Frequency in LPC (Pattern Lines per LFO Cycle) to match the tempo.
to reset the LFO on time:
- focus on the pattern editor
- go the right line in the same channel (LFO is on the device lane for that channel)
- right click the LFO Reset button. This will add a command to reset the LFO.
(use the xx00 value to start at the begin of the LFO enveloppe, up to xxFF to the end)
or - use a Velocity Tracker or Signal Follower device outputting to the LFO Reset
- set the Destination Min. and Max. to both 0 or to a further time in the LFO enveloppe
you can connect the LFO to a
HYDRA
to set all levels for the output plugin. (for many, if desired)
to then connect to a
GAINER
where one should notice, that the level reduced should not be too much.
If it is too much, the song will sound less stable.
If it is just right, it adds to the swing, feel, of the rhythm.
The right levels to duck are mostly between -12 db to -6 dB, maybe less.
Only sometimes it works out good with more or less.
I found that completely ducking to no output volume mostly created too much dynamic impact.
Have fun, happy use of Renoise!

Trigger next sample in instrument
Say I have loaded three slightly different kick samples into one instrument - is there an easy way to have Renoise trigger the next sample every time a key is pressed rather than playing them all at once? I know I can set up keyzones for the individual samples but that would mean triggering different notes for each of them.

Progressive Metal - Noxious Order
Hi people, here’s my last musical endeavour. I hope you’ll have as much fun listening to it as I had composing and recording it
Everything is from me but the voices; those are taken from different artists all over the place
[e4r - Noxious Order] https://soundcloud.com/user-21137993/noxious-order
What music genre is this in your opinion? I call it “progressive metal” but I’m not sure it fits the genre very well. What do you think?

I'm officially one of these people with too many pattern commands
I guess I’ve been using Renoise too long now. Its all pattern commands.
Anyways, I’m not thrilled with the distortion of the filtered saws in this mix, but my ears are fatigued, and when I tried to fix my filtered saws after this render, I just pretty much ruined the groove of the mix, so I have to go back and fix this tomorrow.
but I wanted this up on Soundcloud cause I am really excited about it. Soundcloud says that, “this track is mastered,” which is true and false. I’m using Soundcloud pro, and I get 3 free masters a month, and like I said, my ears are just tired, and I’m a little tired, so I figured, “eh,” and I blew a, “Free mastering by dolby,” on this. Eh, its ok… There’s a click at the very end, I would have sliced off with Cubase, or Wavelab.
but like I said, I really have to fix this raw mix. Unless!!! somebody on here actually likes the distortion on the filtered saws? Let me know

My new jungle/breakcore track
Hand sequencing every single beat was somehow exhausting but it was useful in getting a more organized workflow. No eqing/mastering, but I think it’s 90% finished. Hope you’ll like it

What You Reading ATM?
There is already a “What You Listening To ATM?” thread.
There is already a “What You Watching To ATM?” thread.
So why not having a reading thread?
Not necessarily related to music.
Even if what I’m reading ATM is a book related to music.
I’m also reading a bunch of Philip K Dick books and that’s cool too!

Moving samples in the instrument editor causes xruns
I guess this is normal, however I don’t understand why it even happens when the transport is stopped. Moving larger samples in the instrument editor is causing xruns in Linux.

Nasty Viola fun
made a new thing, its rather spooky this time but that’s how I roll. I got the idea from down tuning a viola 3 octaves and distorting it. It was supposed to be more of a castle theme, but that went out of the window rather quickly.
Put this in the background for a spooks!
