Requiem for a Slaughtered Angel

December 24, 2019 - 03:22

@KR1SP wrote:

Hey all! so ive been using Renoise for about 2-3 months and been producing music for around 6 months (Im a beginner to this stuff). I started with MilkyTracker and then found Renoise off of a Venetian Snares vid.

so I’ve made around 4 songs using renoise but i haven’t really been proud of them until i made this one!

it was a pretty big change for me because i usually made sub-par breakcore.

I arranged the orchestral music and drew out the dubstep elements by drawing waveforms because i dont want to pay 189 dollars for serum.

Feel free to give criticism/feedback!

Share Your Most Useful Doofers

December 23, 2019 - 19:05

@trueschool wrote:

Do a lot of us make our own Doofers?

Some of my favorite Renoise tools are Doofers made by others, like

  • Spatialize (a gorgeous reverb)
  • DJ Filter (nice simple cutoff and resonance filter)

I’ve been getting in the habit of saving some useful strings of effects, knowing that I’ll likely use them on later tracks. Usually, these are just simple combos like:

  • LFO+Gainer (with some interesting useful custom curves saved)
  • LFO+Filter (same)
  • KAOSS Pad – An XYPad+DJ Filter for tactile control of filtering

I think it’d be interesting to hear about the strings of effects you use so often that you’d make them into Doofers.

It’d be cool to start nominating useful Doofers to be bundled into the core Renoise download to give newbies a larger set of commonly-used tools to start with.

What do your Doofers doofer you?

Keep sample properties when loading new samples

Is it possible to leave the set sample properties unchanged when loading new samples?
Let’s say Beatsync 64 and Percussion. After loading new samples it always jumps to the default settings.

New tool (3.2.1): Sample Multi Controller v1.0 build 038 (December 2019)

December 21, 2019 - 22:39

@Raul wrote:

What is the “Sample Multi Controller”?

The Sample Multi Controller , also known as SMC is a “window tool” with multiple instances for the manipulation of the sample, exclusively for Renoise. SMC began as a program capable to control sample start and end loop frames focused for the MIDI input. From there, it grew into a mature tool to control a total of 12 different sampler properties:

  1. One-Shot
  2. Release Mode (Note-OFF or Loop)
  3. Loop Mode (No Loop, Forward, Backward, PingPong)
  4. Loop Window
  5. Start Frame
  6. End Frame
  7. Volume
  8. Panning
  9. Transposition
  10. Finetune
  11. Beatsync Lines
  12. Beatsync Mode (No Beatsync, Repitch, Percussion, Texture)

But it doesn’t stop there! Controlling - Routing - Automating

The SMC not only is 100% MIDI mappable, it also allows broad control with the Automation. The composer can control all of these values via MIDI and different automation methods using a Doofer with up to eight (8) Macros (*Instr. Macros).

*[Multiple Meta Devices] --> [Doofer [Instr. Macros] ] --> Linked Instrument (Index) --> SMC Instance (with Macros Bridge)

Renoise is limited to 8 macros per instrument. The SMC offers up to 16 instances (16 equal windows). Each instance of the SMC was then developed to allow the composer to route each Macro to a particular feature of a sample. So, the 8 Macros of the instrument are able to be assigned to each of the 12 available sample properties, a novelty that will expand Reniose’s capabilities.

In addition, the SMC has a virtual piano, easily controllable with the mouse. It will allow you to keep the note playing while using your mouse or using the usual keyboard commands to play notes. This permet to pre-test the loop and modify the rest of the properties comfortably, controlling everything from the mouse. It is even possible to hold several notes at a time to try. The virtual piano has been added on purpose for this. It is also MIDI-mappable, with velocity sensitivity, and is also able to show the notes that are assigned to each sample.

To further clarify, you can control everything with the mouse (even the automation of the Doofer). You can also control everything with hardware MIDI input, including the entire tool window or the linked Doofer.

SMC window initial view and SMC window expanded

Above, you can see the floating window in its initial appearance and in its expanded appearance, once the composer begins working with the routing and virtual piano.

Route, automate, live record and repeat!

Automation point sticking

@Ledger wrote:

Just noticed that the automation points can ‘stick’ when very close together.

In the image if you try and drag the hilighted point upwards while keeping to the right, it doesn’t want to move up

Here is an xrns to test. Panning is automated on first and only track,

Snap to grid is off:

Automation Stick.xrns (3.3 KB)

edit: also, It doesn’t happen once you zoom right in.

Hi,

Is it possible to zoom in horizontally on the modulation envelope? I’m mostly working with short samples here, so I would like to use the whole window for it. Intuitively I tried the scroll ring on my mouse, you know what I mean

Thanks in advance for your time!

Hello,

I installed Renoise on a standard windows machine laptop.

The scaling of the GUI was set to (auto) and it upscaled the GUI.
Half of the bottom DSP effect screen was missing.

This feature should not be enabled by default.

The scaling of the GUI should be set to 100% on installation.

The final song is pitched up and compressed with Tokyo Dawn Labs Kotelnikov GE.
Problems arised with using the Ozone Elements spatializer when listening back on headphones, so I did not use that. It removed all the punch and created a big bathroom of sound in which everything was big. Some instrumental tracks have been entered in Renoise, with VSTs KORG Mono/Poly, 2x LennarDigital Sylenth1, for the bass KORG PolySix and AAS LoungeLizard EP, the composition was done in Renoise 3.2.1. Some instrumental tracks come from Band-In-A-Box 2020 (the guitar shots, which is only enabled on beat 2 and 4 because beat 1 and 3 had some kind of hoom-pa-pa line, the piano on some parts enabled, the jazz drums mixed, 2x a kick drum sample, 1x a drum loop with only the high filtered with open hi-hat, a snare roll and a crash cymbal). The song has widely been used in many vocal attempts by… oh no, I just released this. Please sing! on this and send in your vocals

Enjoy!
