Gui notifiers questions
Hello,
stupid question,
but I’m looking for a bug in the script where I wrote my debugging prints.
Of course, I have a lot of notifiers in my gui.
Until now I thought that the code was triggered after every change in value
but these prints convinced me that this is probably not the case.
The function is performed only if it is different from the previous one.
Is that right ?
If the value was 5 before and I enter 5 again, the function will not be executed, if I enter 6 then yes.

Windows Focus Bug?
Hi,
I’m new to Renoise and found out a behavior which feels like a bug to me.
See the gif to get an visual idea of the bug. I use the keyboard to switch the focus. It works well until the focus gets stuck in the little dsp-browser and keep on switching between the search field and the dsp listing instead of moving forward to the effects chain. I could use another keyboard shortcut to switch the focus but that’s rather annoying because I would assume to cycle thru the different windows.
Latest Renoise version. OS: Win10 64bit

Activating Spectrogram
Searched forum to no avail. The options for Spectrogram on the Spectrum are greyed out and I can’t click them.
I’m using SPAN for regular FFT duties and would like to use the Spectrogram in Renoise, but is this a discontinued feature in 3.4?
Long time owner but new user here.
Cheers,
Sonny

Renoise not finding VST's in old songs
Sorry if this was mentioned. I tried checking.
I recently got a new hdd and installed windows again. So of course I had to download renoise again and I didn’t even realize it was a new version.
I had to download my plugin installers. They gave me the option of VST3 so if I had that option I chose it.
I noticed they install somewhere dark & mysterious and renoise just finds them. If I installed a VST3 plugin with renoise currently open I had to uncheck the “enable VSt3 plugins” box and then check it again so it would show up in renoise.
The main problem is that songs are loading with an error for example:
These plugins are installed but my guess is that it’s trying to find older VST2? plugins.
I can reload those plugins but I have to start over. I lose all the changes I made to any presets, any knob I tweaked. Just looking for solutions. Maybe I’m overlooking something

Fundraiser for Ukraine with songs from Renoisers
Hi all,
Last week the compilation United electronic music artists for Ukraine was released on 05 april 2022. It contains 20 tracks by electronic music artists from various genres. Among these artists are also Renoise users. @Jonas and me in any case.
Some artists wrote a brand new track for this compilation, while others came with some very great one they already had. The artists have created something beautiful for this world!
Now after the release we have the goal to fund direct causes for aid to Ukraine with all of the proceeds from the United Electronic Music Artists for Ukraine compilation. In this way we hope to be able to contribute to help for the people in Ukraine in a musical and direct way as what feels like what we can do within our possibilities.
The compilation is available on Bandcamp only and can be listened to and purchased here:

BR - Native Instruments effects plugins UI not working
As the title says, the UI is in the lower left of the plugin window and the controls do not work, it passes audio and the effects are working if you hit randomize to hear the parameters change, but they can’t be adjusted.

Transient controller, how?
Hi,
I’m trying to do transient control on breaks using only renoise internal devices.
My goal is to get the same effect as the free “couture” vst. The usual effect I try to achieve is reducing the “drum sustain” to get the drums sound more punchy and less compressed. This is usually in a chain after bit reducing or/and distortion. Basically a de-compressor.
I tried to use the compressor device with a slow attack time, but the result is really not there…
Did anyone try to go this route and got some tips ?
Thanks

My new electro project: Brainwash Machine
During lockdown the last years I had an awakening that made want to try to make some dancy stuff. The style developed as I wrote the songs, maybe I can call it “electro funk”? 100% made with Renoise, but I recorded the guitar in Ableton Live.

Renoise bad Amiga Mod Playback compatibility!?!
Hi!
I had to realize in many cases, that the Renoise Amiga Mod compatibility is not very good.
For Instance…
Space debris.mod
joyride.mod
serial killer.mod
serial-killer(eps2).mod
and much other…
2 questions to this.
-
Why is the Amiga Mod Playback compatibility from Renoise so bad.
-
Are there plans to fix/improve this in the future, or are this abadoned functions?
happy tracking

"Render sample DSP chain" not working anymore
This seems broken on the newest renoise version.
I have a sample with a sample fx chain associated to it. when i click the “SFX” button, the effects are not rendered, nothing changed.

Linux ALSA "default" device: distortion
It’s hugely welcome to now be able to use ALSA “default” device.
But in practice I’m getting distorted playback. It doesn’t seem to be linked to the hardware, realtime priority or any other factors.
My default device is ALSA dmix (not PulseAudio) fixed at 48000Hz and period_size 64.
Playback seems slower and is constantly distorted (not momentary glitches)
- Other applications play back fine on the same device
- Changing “Periods/Buffer” in Renoise changes the nature of the sound but ultimate doesn’t help. Feels like if I could increase it to 32 or 64 maybe it could sound correct, but these are huge buffers.
- Other apps using the same device successfully, including realtime use at 4x periods. Still sound ok even when Renoise is using the device.
- Getting these same results with an actual hardware device, or with snd-aloop
- Tried various “In device” settings in Renoise, with some intermittent effect (see case below)
So it seems to suggest this might be the way Renoise is using the ALSA API.
Snippet of .asoundrc:
playback.pcm { type dmix ipc_key 3187 # direct_memory_access on slave { rate 48000 channels 2 format S24_LE buffer_size 8192 period_size 64 pcm { type hw card "Local" device 0 subdevice 3 } } }Threads seem to be prioritised:

I wouldn’t expect this to work because of the differing clocks, and it’s still terrible but at least has some stable playback:

Another Renoise-Only Stereo Spreader
Searching for a more adjustable version of Logic’s “Spreader” effect, I have found that I can create a send-effect for Renoise that is pretty close to Logic’s, without it sounding quite as shimmery, and I can use the sends to avoid having the entire mix processed by it.
Of course, I am also aware that one could simply export the entire Renoise mix via separate tracks to Logic and process each track with the Spreader effect separately, but I’m not in the mood to do so.
So, here’s a nice Doofer that has both the Delay-based Haas effect, paired with the Stereo Expander to provide just a little extra sheen.

Igorski Homecorrupter on Linux
Hi,
I’m curious if any Linux users out there have had any luck building Igorski’s VST plugins on Linux. I’m not a C/C++/CMake dev, and I’ve tried to follow the instructions on his GitHub page to no avail.

Murky jungle from the subconscious
This is essentially an attempt to recreate a track I dreamed while slipping in and out of sleep. Yes, I know- that is probably weird and doesn’t make for the clearest structure, but nothing I do seems to have that

Snappy GUI improvement?
Just a detail, but I think the GUI would feel snappier and more modern if actions were applied on_click instead of on_release. I don’t see any new software using “the old scheme” nowadays (?). I think it makes quite a subtly big difference in user experience. Maybe dialogue buttons (ok, cancel, save) could still use on_release, just for comfort.
Looking around at various software, I only find that url:s often still use on_release, as if the user should have the chance of changing his mind when clicking something.
EDIT:
Actually, in some software it’s a mess without any logic. Maybe actions that “changes data” could be on_release…? But for things like different views, tabs, transport, on_click feels better imo.
