VST3 Plugins glitchy on Linux
Is it just me or is anyone having also issues with glitchy GUIs of VST3 plugins? I’m on Ubuntu 20.04 and basically all U-he plugins I tested show this. I also upgraded to the latest versions and no change.

How to render track-level stems exactly as they sound in the mix?
Hi there
I have a finished song and have been asked to provide stems. The track contains a few groups and subgroups. There are things going on like the Signal Follower effect creating a “ducking” kind of sidechain on one of these subgroups whenever a kick drum sounds. And there are master- and group-level compressors/tape/etc effects that are responding to the entire summed signal going into them.
I want to end up with a set of stems representing each track (not group) which, when placed into a DAW, will recreate the exact sound of the original Renoise tune. I am not interested in having the groups and subgroups rendered as their own WAVS, as the end user is only interested in the individual tracks within them.
If I select Render to Disk and tick “Save each track into a separate file” to extract the stems, it gives me separate WAVs for each track, each group and each subgroup. But the individual track WAVs are dry whenever those are part of a subgroup. For example, when I look at the WAV for the rendered track representing the bass guitar, the ducking effect is missing. So when I assemble the track-level WAVs into a DAW, it recreates the tune without any of the group-level FX or other track-dependent things like Signal Follower on it.
Then I found this ace tool by @dltfm :
I thought this would do what I wanted, but it seems to work by soloing each track as it goes and rendering a WAV of each. This ignores the Signal Follower when generating WAVs, as the Signal Follower must appear on a different track to the one you’re soloing, so will be inactive and not producing its required control signal to do the ducking. Not only that, but master FX like compressors/tape FX will end up sounding different as those effects respond in a different way when presented with the summed input signal of everything on the tune versus the one track being soloed at the time. So when I end up with a set of WAVs extracted with The Deliverer, it’s closer to what I need, ie it has some of the effects “burnt in” to each wav, but seems to omit ones that rely on other channels that would be muted at the time, and tape/compressor effects do not sound the same. Therefore the set of WAVs I end up with still do not sound like the original tune when summed together and because master effects like limiters/compressors act differently on solo signals, the assembled WAVs will exceed the peak signal.
Now I’m experimenting with setting up a send for each finished track I want and seeing if that will conjure up a set of faithful stems, but that seems to be its own world of pain too.
Is there a way/setting/tool that will generate track-level “wet” WAVs that, when summed, will sound exactly like the finished tune?

Initial Renoise launch has poor audio quality but loading a previous file fixes it
I have been living with an issue for some time now, when I first launch Renoise the audio engine seems to glitch and any audio played is heavily crackled. It is fixed by loading almost any song I’ve previously worked with(which will have no glitch) then just create a new song from the file menu and it all works normally. I’ve tried to open multiple renoise instances to compare settings but they seem the same. I’ve also tried to create a default template but that will have the audio issues on load as well. What is also confusing is that the audio engine glitches will still happen on some files first launch(from a shortcut) but not others, again, it will just be fixed by reloading a file I know works then reloading that track.
Any ideas? It’s not a giant inconvenience as I’ve just gotten into the habit of loading renoise from a working file and creating a new instance from there but it’d still be sick to stop doing that.

Get effect from effect number
Hi,
please excuse if this question has been asked before. It didn’t find it using the forum search.
What I would like to know:
I like to use the right click feature available in effects to record them to the effect column.
As I’m using this feature extensively for turning on and off effects I tend to get lose and later don’t remember to which effect an effect command/number belongs.
How can I get/determine the effect, that belongs to the effect command/number I see in the effect column?
Many thanks for your help and have a nice day.
Denny

Potentially embarassing list of things I'm still not sure about in Renoise
Hello,
I have a few questions that I still haven’t found a satisfactory answer to or otherwise was unable to process properly following a review of the manual/tutorials. Don’t judge me!
-
I have tried to use the glide command to control a VST plug-in’s notes and the glide does not happen, I know that this is listed as a sample command so is it simply that anything under that header will not apply to MIDI? For example, the retrigger command and the U and D commands?
-
When in the sample waveform editor, which ruler option is best for cutting samples to precise lengths relative to the song tempo? Beats? If so, I do struggle to parse the numbers and quite what they mean.
-
What is the use case for VST aliasing?
-
I like to use the Cut command in the format “C0x” where x is 0-F for the point in the line where I want the sample sound to cut to zero, but this doesn’t always work - sometimes I will type “C0F” and the sample keeps playing after receiving the command. If I change it to “C0B” it will work - any idea what the reason for this is?
-
Am I missing out by not using the formula device? I am intrigued by it but honestly, without knowing what is possible, I can’t even begin to comprehend what I could be doing with it.
-
I enjoy using Signal Followers as an alternative to sidechain compression and also to musically relate two different tracks - however, why is it when I reduce the sensitivity the reaction speed of the device and it’s output increases?
-
The automation window sometimes only shows the time period of the selected pattern, other times it shows the entire song length for the selected parameter and I am unsure why this is. I must be missing something.
-
Phrases are something I am really under-utilising. For example, I have previously entered a short phrase to create an arpeggio using the phrase to define the relationship between the notes “C4 - D#4 - G4” and when I go back to the pattern editor and hold down, say, F4 I get an arpeggio of the correct F minor triad. However, let’s say I use a phrase to sequence the hits of a breakbeat - do I HAVE to map the phrase to a specific key or keyzone and if not, what key do I need to press to play it back correctly? I do get a little lost with phrases.
-
Can I issue an LFO reset command in the pattern editor for an LFO that is part of a sampler-level modulation chain? I.E. so that the LFO correctly resets it’s phase at the start of a pattern? Currently, I just assign a macro and LFO modulate that instead.
I don’t have Renoise open right now, but I think these are the main questions I have for now.

Arturia Vocoder V in Renoise?
I’m just having a heck of a time working out the audio routing of live vocals into this plug-in.
Does anyone know how I could go about routing an audio signal & midi notes into a plugin like this or The Mouth?
Thank you

Re-fire selected_track_device observable on context change?
Hi,
I am trying to add a dsp device context menu, dependent on the device_path. Now if I only clear the context menu and maybe add it on selected_track_device_observable only, the menu entries still can be there wrongly, if I switch the context, e.g. from instrument sampler fx to the tracker view. Both views have the same dsp lane (from lua perspective), yet a different selection and devices. Shouldn’t then Renoise re-fire/bang selected_track_device_observable as soon as the context is switched?
I think it already does so on track change…

Bug in describe_undo()?
Hi,
I am setting the undo description before the changes in the slider chang event on my eq helper tool. If I pass the current value to the message, too, strangely it will then display the value of the change before. So if I move the slider to +5, and then to -3, and now doing undo, it will change back to +5, but display “transpose slider to +5 was undone”…

USB Foot Pedal MIDI Compatibly
Any one know how to get one of these working in Renoise, or at all with a Mac?
eBay 1 piece USB foot pedal control triple switch game keyboard mouse PC | eBayIt is equivalent to a standard HID USB keyboard and mouse, but it is customizable by using the setting software, which can define your foot switch as any keys, key combinations or mouse, No other software is required.

Vst3 parameter manipulation extremely slow in some cases
If you change a vst parameter value via scripting, the operation seems to take a ton of time (macos). It should be instant.
Steps to reproduce:
- Install EQHelper tool
- Install Pro Q3 VST3
- Draw any kind of EQ curve with a lot of bands, e.g. 24
- Now open context menu on the dsp device and select “transpose +12” while keeping the plugins GUI opened. You literally can see how slow it changes the parameter values
- Now undo and redo. It is now instant.
The change happens in a loop, but instantly in one and the same call, as far as I can see. Something fishy is going on here…

String matching is ugly, how to do that
Hi,
I want to simply match a string in which only one or two numbers might change. Examples:
Cutoff 1 Cutoff 2 ... Frequency 1 (EQ 1) Frequency 2 (EQ 2) ...Now I am trying to use string.match(), and finding some good documentation, but I only can find stupid dissertations about lua string matching, not giving any real life examples.
I tried this:
Frequency [%d+] (EQ [%d+]) Frequency %d+ (EQ %d+)Both tries for a proper matching string do not work, of course. Any idea here, please? Questions:
- How do I match an exact string part, like "Frequency " (including the whitespace)?
- Do I need to interpolate the bracket signs?
Omg, I simply wanted to use a simple pattern matching, but it turns out that LUA devs expect me to spend my whole weekend for such stupid things…

What do you do to keep your Renoise CPU low? (Windows)
Hi there
More and more lately I’m reaching the stuttering unusable “too much CPU for too long” stage when working on an admittedly complex piece of music in Renoise. I can see the percentage meter flying up as I hit play and I just know it’s gonna stop the song. Frustrating!
What do you folks do to keep the CPU as low as possible (apart from rendering off a CPU-heavy pattern)? Are there any tricks that work for you, be they within Renoise or other system settings? I’ve heard turning off the wireless card is one, perhaps switching off antivirus software, but that might be anecdotal.
It’s getting to the point where I have to render the song to hear it play properly - then do my tweak, then re-render - not ideal.
I’m running Renoise 3.3.2 on Windows 7 PC with a Samsung SSD installed. I have a NI Komplete Audio 6 soundcard. There doesn’t seem to be an option to extend the latency within the audio preferences of Renoise, but I have the process buffer and USB buffer within the Komplete Audio control panel maxed out.
Thank you!

Remove Single Trackcolumn?
Hi,
i want to simply delete a unused or further not needed Trackcolumn. But in Column Contextmenu there is no delete, only a cut which only deletes the notes in it??!!! i checked the shortcut window and not found a Column delete too. As Workaround i delete all notes on Column and move it by mouse on last position of trackcolumns. then i remove it with the “-” button of Trackcolumn control. Is there really no other way to do this??
happy tracking

Lua Nested Comments Syntax Highlighting
Long/nested Lua comments using the --[=[ ... ]=] format are not properly syntax-highlighted in Renoise’s Scripting Editor. They are ignored by the interpreter as they should be, but they are just not properly displayed, which does impact their usefulness in development for those who rely on Renoise’s Scripting Editor.
