Enable midi routing for all renoise instruments, not just for midi out plugins

Renoise Forum - September 27, 2020 - 16:49

Currently, midi routing is only possible, when you load up a plugin. But i want to use a phrase on an instrument which have his own phrases. I can load up a dummy plugin with midi out support(for simply passthrough midi data) to route it, but i think this should be possible all the time without any plugins.

Anyway, just tried the MassiveX demo in it (my first test of a VST in Renoise) and it crashes instantly on preset switching.

Any help to fix this would be appreciated.

Bug: Automation play cursor colour

Renoise Forum - September 26, 2020 - 23:38

In the automation lane, the play cursor takes the colour of “Single Marker” in the Automation section of the theme settings, while it probably should take “Play Marker”, as does the play cursor in the LFO device for instance.

Bug in applying "Automation Play Marker" colour

Renoise Forum - September 26, 2020 - 22:51

The colour for “Automation Play Marker” in the Theme settings, while apparently also applied to phrases play marker, is not applied correctly and inconsistently. Please see image below. Only above the piano keys it is applied correctly, in the phrases list (both in the phrases tab as well as in the Instrument Properties panel, it is not applied correctly (and in the shown case leading to it not being properly visible).

Song crash on loading

Renoise Forum - September 26, 2020 - 13:41

Hi all, I have an annoying issue where a few of my recent songs that I have started, fail to load the next time I want to work on them.

I select last loaded song or open the file through the browser, when it gets to ‘activating song’ Renoise crashes back to Windows.

I am guessing this must be a VST or something that is causing this to happen, for the life of me I can’t tell which VST it is that is causing the crash!

Is there a way to open songs without plugins or is there any other way I could salvage the ‘lost’ songs.

Thanks in advance.

New software for finding new sounds from VST synths

Renoise Forum - September 24, 2020 - 23:37

We have developed a new freeware tool for finding sounds from VST synthesizers. It has been developed using Renoise as a testing platform. The software uses machine learning to analyze VST synthesizer’s presets.

Novel Insight Hypercube VST can be downloaded from here:

http://www.novelinsight.fi/

Here is link to a video showing how to use the software:

And examples of sounds found using the tool:

Remove Dash/Dot Grid in Renoise

Renoise Forum - September 24, 2020 - 22:40

Hi everyone. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this, or if this has been addressed before, but to my knowledge it hasn’t. I thought this might go into tool development, but I’m not sure yet if developing a tool is the way to go.

I would like to stylize Renoise in such a way as to remove most, or all of the pattern editor “null” grid, ie the array of tiny dots and dashes found in the note, FX, and volume columns. So far, I have tried going in the appearance editor in “Settings” > “GUI” and fooling around with colours and transparencies. Unfortunately, the background dots/dashes are set to always be the same colour as the notes which get inputted over them.

I have also tried fooling around with the font files (on a Mac) in Renoise (app) [show package contents] > resources > skin > fonts. I have tried swapping out different font files, and even editing the font files to manually delete anything which looks like a dot or dash, none of which seems to have any effect, unless I was careless about it which is possible.

I am thinking that the actual dots/dashes are not a font at all, and are simply hard coded into Renoise as pixels, but I’m not sure at this point. If anyone has any ideas I will happily try anything and report my results.

Thank you.

An online sample generator

Renoise Forum - September 24, 2020 - 20:05

I like to generate samples for Renoise. A lot. I’m always looking for ways to create new waveforms.

I won’t use AKWF. Not now, not ever. I like to make my own sounds.

Online, there is a video game SFX generator call JFXR here: https://jfxr.frozenfractal.com/

Besides SFX, it can also create single-cycle waveforms. For the ‘Sustain’ section, change the time to: 0.0038095 - this will output a 168-samples length waveform. Tune the sample as you see fit. 261.63 is “C”.

It does FM and AM as well as the basic waveforms, along with harmonics.

AM is under the label “Tremolo Depth” and “Tremolo Frequency” - it goes up to 999.999 Hz
FM is under the label “Vibrato Depth” and “Vibrato Frequency” - it goes up to 999.999 Hz

Under the “Tone” section, you can add harmonics to the waveform for even more variation to your samples.

Finally, since this is a SFX generator, you can also come up with all sorts of bass-drums, and other odd percussion. Maybe snares? I don’t know, I haven’t tried every variation. Lots of neat sounds. The noise waveforms are nice and soft as well.

Renoise LBP Thing suckz!

Renoise Forum - September 24, 2020 - 14:08

Hello together!

Why the LBP4 to LBP8 Change, changes the BPM speed in Renoise? In Reason only it change the Raster of midi Notes, when i change from 1/16 to 1/32 Note. I have testet that!!! If i make the LBP chance in Renoise, The Song is speeded up redicolous. And Renoise has no Midi Note Time Scaling function!!! That Suckz like Hell.
maybe for me that is killerthing to end up using renoise

Pattern launching

Renoise Forum - September 23, 2020 - 20:56

Sorry if this has been answered already, I did search around first but could only find ancient posts…

Is there a way to launch/trigger patterns on the fly by assigning them to keys on the keyboard (computer or midi) and having them switch in a quantized manner? Also, ideally, to be able to record that sequence in as well.

Hope that makes sense
Cheers

Shortcut for moving to the next note column (skipping Instrument, Vol, FX)

Renoise Forum - September 23, 2020 - 16:23

simple feature, but it would be very useful if there was a shortcut for moving left and right to the next note column, automatically skipping Instrument Number, Volume, Delay, FX, etc.

So you could simply enter a Chord by hitting : Q RIGHT R RIGHT Z for example.

I know you can enter a chord by holding shift, but I still would find this easier to try out different notes in different positions and moving around the grid in general.
