My free sample packs!

Renoise Forum - September 4, 2023 - 23:50

So I started making these a few years ago, and thanks to all the love and support I’ve gotten I just kept on going. Today I released sample pack #50, which is such a crazy milestone to me because sample pack #1 was basically just a joke / experiment to see if I could push myself creatively to do something like this.

To celebrate 50 releases, I figured this would be a cool place to share some free samples. They’ll stick to your Bandcamp account forever (if you have one), but you also don’t need to sign up in order to claim these. Happy sampling!

Old tool: PostMan

Renoise Forum - September 4, 2023 - 17:34

Hello,

Once upon a time I released Tool PostMan which applied an envelope in a sample divided by slices.
Somehow I did not succeed in dividing the sample exactly using the snap menus,
so now I added the division of the sample by calculating from BPM and LPB.
Furthermore, I found out that when the envelope is in the style that there are zeros at the end values
so it’s called Pulsar synthesis
I thought it was still AM, but the Pulsar synthesis sounds harsher!!!

video with PS is here

Problems with DSP56300 Osirus VST3 plugins (and others)

Renoise Forum - September 4, 2023 - 15:43

Hi, first time poster here.
Since the latest update, I’m having quite a bit of trouble running (several) VST3 Synths, espcially the DSP56300 Osirus.
Sometimes it just don’t reacts to pressed keys anymore. After Closing the window, using as active instrument it reacts again, after opening the window again it stops reactting again, and then: complete crash.
Happened a few times like that.

Same with other VST3s. I’ve been havin’ troubles like that a lot during the last few days.

Any infos on/ ideas to that that?

Do you use any external tools for time stretching samples?

Renoise Forum - September 3, 2023 - 16:47

I found Renoise’s stretching algorithm kinda lackluster, and I’m aware of the incredible Rubberband-Aid which did help a lot. Just wondering if there are any other options that I left unexplored; what’s your workflow? I saw Groovin in G use Pro Tools for stretching, for example

How to make ctrl z return to previous note

Renoise Forum - September 3, 2023 - 08:32

When I press ctrl + z to remove the previous note after making a mistake, the current line will not move back to the previous note position.

For example if on line 0 and the step size is 4, I press z will move the current line to line 3. now when I press ctrl + z, the previous note will be deleted but the current line is still 3.

Is there a way to make ctrl + z also move back to the previous note location? (similar to the behavior of Deflemask or Sunvox)

One more question: when I type into the effects and volume column, the current line also get moved by the step size. I have to set step size to 0 and use the right arrow key to move the cursor right to properly enter effects/volume. Is there a way for Renoise to more the cursor to the right when entering volume or effects? (similar to the behavior Deflemask)

Velocity to filter env.only

Renoise Forum - September 3, 2023 - 00:15

have an issue ,
I want the envelope in the filter section to react to velocity sensitivity .
Like this .
Issue is that the global velocity also affects the overall loudnes , which I don’t want .
Obviously when turning off global velocity (top screen) , filter env.velo won’t work anymore .

Where to download free seamless patterns tiling textures?

Renoise Forum - August 30, 2023 - 23:01

Hello,

In order to make Renoise textures, we need to use seamless patterns tiling textures. In the past, I used to find easily those kind of graphical resources on a website called GRSites. This site has shutdowned a few years ago. By chance the free textures are available on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Here is the URL where you can still download a ZIP containing all the free textures.

https://archive.org/details/grsites-textures

Now it’s cool, but the pictures are old, often small, sometimes in bad quality. Thanks to @Jalex who requested a skulls & bones texture, I searched the web and realized that it is flooded with not-free graphical resources. So my question is: do you know some good websites to download free (let’s say royalty-free) textures, without having to create an account or to pay for a monthly subscription?

Thanks!

How to avoid renoise to try to start jack automatically when the last card is not found

Renoise Forum - August 30, 2023 - 17:33

I rarely use jack, I always prefer to use alsa cards directly, becouse I don’t need to interconnect other audio applications. But sometimes when my usb audio card is unplugged and the laptop internal card is set to be the main output by pipewire when I start renoise it tries to activate jack which works… but messes up pipewire so that I have to fix it every time by using this command: systemctl --user restart wireplumber pipewire pipewire-pulse
So is there a way to avoid renoise to fall back on jack?

JACK doesn't work in Renoise (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed)

Renoise Forum - August 29, 2023 - 16:55

Description
When i try to set up JACK on Renoise in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, there’s no audio at all. When i checked the console output of Renoise it reveals that it failed to connect the ports for some reason i don’t know about.

Renoise LOG> Jack: Trying to open client 'renoise'... Renoise LOG> Jack: Sample rate: 48000 Renoise LOG> Jack: Using Buffersize 1024... Renoise LOG> Jack: Configuring the Player... Renoise LOG> Jack: FAILED to connect port 'MSI GH50 Gaming Headset Estéreo analógico:playback_FL' to port 'renoise:output_01_left' Renoise LOG> Jack: FAILED to connect port 'MSI GH50 Gaming Headset Estéreo analógico:playback_FR' to port 'renoise:output_01_right' Renoise LOG> Jack: Up and running

Steps to reproduce

  • Launch Renoise
  • Go to “Edit” in the navigation bar, which then will reveal a panel that leads you to “preferences”
  • On Preferences, go to the Audio settings. On Device Settings, in device type set jack
  • Try to make any sound from the program

Expected results
There should be audio working with JACK on Renoise just fine

Actual results
What was described earlier happens. No audio at all

Save at config, not at exit

Renoise Forum - August 29, 2023 - 16:04

Both Config.xml and KeyBindings.xml seem to be written when I exit Renoise, not when I close the Preferences dialog.

If you speed up the BPM and Renoise abnormally terminates, for example, you will lose the settings you have made so far.

It would be great if it would be written when setting up or closing the Preference dialog.

Octamed note echo

Renoise Forum - August 28, 2023 - 13:09

Octamed Soundstudio used to have a note echo feature where you could input the number of steps after which a note would be echoed, set the volume drop for each echo. You would then select a range or track where you had some notes input already and apply it by hitting the ‘echo’ button. New notes would be generated in the selected range which would act like echoes of the original notes. For instance if I selected a track with just a C written in position 1, echoing it with a delay of 3 would put in a new note every 3 steps thereafter, each with the specified volume drop. By layering multiple note echoes with different delays you could make some really cool effects. Something like this would be a great feature on Renoise, especially if you could also apply it to things like VST parameters or MIDI control codes etc.
