MIDI Mapping more features
Hi This is a tiny little request that wouldn’t need much code I think,
but make my life easier and speed up workflow dramatically:
I’d love to quickly scroll through sounds on VSTi instrument properties to find the most suitable sound while playing a pattern. Make the “previous” and “next” arrow buttons MIDI mappable,
I am sure that people also would like other buttons and selectors mappable, but this would be my favorite.
In my way of working, the Advanced Pattern Editor section would also be nice to have MIDI mappable:

Apply beatsync to slices
so, let’s say I have a sample loop of 16 beats… but the tempo is 128 bpm
so… beatsync it to my project tempo, 124 bpm
all good by now.
but why the hell aren’t the slices i make in that loop beatsynced? GIVE ME ONE situation when this would be usefull?
same problem in these topics:
Beat slicing beatsync Help, Support & Bugs yes this is exactly what I am talking about. I thought I was missing the obvious, as in other daws it is solved by just setting the speed of that main sample youre cutting You can solve it by calling the original sample with the ‘s’ sample command but it just doesnt have the same feel and you cant really use it with the duplex sequencer. I guess it also works when you set the songs bpm to that of the sample, but i dont always know the exact bpm. Question about slice markers Beginners Questions - Renoise Hello all. I have a sample of a break, say at 120BPM. My track is much higher, say 160BPM. I understand that I can ‘beatsync’ the sample to play in time, albeit pitched up. When I use the slice marker command, each 1/16 bar is a new slice, and I have it set to play through the loop after the slice completes. However, when the loop plays, it is no longer beatsynced. It is at the original sample speed. Is there any way to easily ‘beatsync’ these slices without re-rendering the sample at the new …2 posts - 2 participants
Granular synthesis/sampling?
Has anyone figured out a good way to achieve granular synthesis in renoise?
I’ve tried the method described here:
Granular Synthesis In Renoise Tips & Tricks Hi, in this video i will show one of the techniques of making granulation of a short samples. As renoise haven’t yet integrated random sample loop start and looping point overlap, i created a short video for you making this in different way. Useful if you have good short sample but its sounds ugly when looping. watch in full screen HD no voice comments! just action. p.s. it may need some tweaking changing lenth and form of the envelopes, changing speed, it is acctual granular playground […and although it does achieve the sound, it still leaves a lot more to be wished for in terms of experimentation - it’s not possible to scroll the grain along the sample, adjusting grain size and so on.
did anyone figure out a way to do granular stuff besides the method mentioned above?

Volume/velocity changes note volume with VEL→VOL disabled when combined with GX/GXX glide
Brief description
Volume/velocity changes note volume with VEL→VOL disabled when combined with GX/GXX glide
This causes conflicts if wanting to use a Velocity Tracker device and GX/GXX glide on the same note without affecting note volume.
Steps to reproduce
Disable VEL→VOL on instrument keyzone. Combine volume and glide commands on same note. Volume changes are heard when glide is used. No volume change is heard when volume command used without glide.
Expected results
No note volume change
Actual results
Volume of note changes

Renoise 3.4 New Functions 2022
Hello everyone,
Warping
I have noticed that almost all daws that i am working in -beside Renoise- had / have obtained a warping function in sample focus editing mode “Even Propexxerheards R8ason”. But still waiting for this function to appear in Renoise.
Is there any chance to see Warping function in further versions of Renoise ? “warping markers can be shown from the bottom, while the slicing markers are on the top”
+What about adding more Beatsync blending protocols " mods", something like : Complex-anti alias-, Pro Complex-with more artificial formants-, Vocal Mode-human formant semi-, Melodic-for instruments…etc / beside the time-streatch 1 and time-streatch 2
Why “Warping” ?
This function is a must have in my opinion for vocal and instrumental editing in Renoise sample editor. A lot of times when it comes to vocal editing, even after snapping, the vocal can miss a metronome click " word or a letter gets off the tempo marker", and without warping it always sounds so “dirty” and off the beat. if using the sample positioning command 0SXX “sample slice number recall” it will sound even worse.
I wont mention the Vocal Pitch editing-correction in this section. I thing that it will be the hardest part to execute.
Sample indexer
Search mode in Renoise still works on the base of local tagging rule : searching in a category or subcategory - subfolder can match only letters and words. Example: when you type “hat” the search command works only on tag matching “letters and words in the Base folder”, not META matching across the whole library.
In other competitor daws there is always an “indexer.exe” or a cloud thread that can locate and find any sample/object that matches the element of your searching across all the folders of your library “not only in the current Base folder”.
Is there any hope that we can see this option in the future? Like, i think it is time to add something like this in Renoise. I currently use the ADSR free sample manager as an alternative, but it crashes a lot. Beside, using a third party sample manager is so inflexible when dropping the samples to the Renoise panel.
Micro LPS settings for individual patterns.
Lately i was facing an issue in notes editing in Renoise : when it comes to fast and short lead lines or melodies i am always forced to write those lines in “Phrases” under a doubled LPS. Example: If i have a song that plays on 120bpm, and i want to write a lead is much shorter than 1 bar “in 4/4 condition” i need to raise the whole LPS of the project from 4 to 8 LPS. If it is much shorter, means from 4 to 16. Means more struggling in automation and editing in general. I think that it will be so useful to have an option that can control the LPS of any track by its own, like having a track that plays on 4 LPS beside of a track that plays in 8 or 16 LPS. In midi based daws that uses a piano roll it is all about the GRIND . You can chose your grind settings in piano roll from 1/2 - 1/4 1/16 …etc. But still have to use individual Phrasing in Renoise to compensate this issue.
Thank you guys for such a powerfull DAW!

How do you compose without a waveform?
Hi there. Very new to Renoise, although I feel extremely passionate about the DAW and feel like it’s a wonderful fit for me. However, I am just starting out and finding it somewhat difficult to compose without the traditional viewable waveform(s). I thought there might be waveform viewer options in the upper or lower frame but I don’t see anything particularly helpful there. So my question is, how do you compose in Renoise in the pattern editor without waveforms or other audio indicators in the field of view other than the pattern code itself? So far I picture myself having to relisten to my track over and over again without another means of editing it. How do you personally find it easiest to work this way with simply the pattern editor? Let me know. Thanks!

Renoise reporting extremely high CPU usage (99%)
So ever since upgrading to Windows 10 64-bit I’ve experienced extremely high CPU usage in Renoise that does not correspond to Windows’ own CPU usage reporting.
Like, 99% in Renoise, and 35% in Windows:
(might not be readable, it says “34.0%” for Renoise, “38%” total for all CPU usage in Task Manager, while Renoise is claiming “98.4%”)
My computer, which is a gaming rig with a Core i7 and 16 gigabytes of RAM, is overclocked, all power throttling in Windows is disabled, and no other applications have this issue.
This high CPU usage in Renoise causes my songs to hitch, stutter, and distort, making it unusable.
Are there any Renoise settings I can change that might fix this issue?
Or anything else I can try that might help?
Thanks!

Quick style renoise track
Here’s a quickie style track I made the other day using a sample of my family hanging out and going from there. Put together and mixed on headphones in probably about 2 hours but you know how it goes sometimes you just gotta get it done and out before you lose interest and move on.
Cheers!

A track I’ve been writing on and off for some few months, made as an offshoot of a completely different project. It is made entirely in Renoise, mastered at Soundcloud.
The bassline is Surge VSTi.

How to set lines-per-phrase when rendering slices to phrase
Hello,
Please see video:
The video shows me adding 2 different audio files, one after the other to the sampler.
The first audio file is short, the 2nd audio file is much longer.
Notice the first (shorter audio) render results in a phrase of length of 256 lines.
The 2nd render (longer audio) results in a phrase of length 32 lines.
Which is the opposite of what I would expect, that is the longer audio would get the greater resolution, not vice versa.
Any idea why this is?
Any way to configure the number of lines in the resulting phrase?
Lines per beat under Render slice options seems to have an inconsistent effect.
Thanks

The Revolutionary Sound Absorbing Screw
The inventor claim that these drywall screws reduce through the wall sound levels by 9 decibels, it’s not yet on the market though.
“The Revolutionary Sound Absorbing Screw - in short, the Sound Screw - can accomplish sound insulation many people ask for. It is easy to use. Replace your regular screw with a Sound Screw and your problems with unpleasant sound is solved, without adding extra building materials or extra work. It is tested with amazing results. When mounted the Sound Screw provides a resilient connection between panels and studs in a way where a substantial part of airborne as well as impact sound can be absorbed by the screws.” akoustos.se
interestingengineering.com – 11 Jul 21 This Spring-Loaded Screw Is the Future of SoundproofingIt works simply by limiting the transmission of the vibrations into the drywall and can result in a sound reduction of nine decibels.

Render song bug. Probably an interpolation issue
When I render a song where the cursor is stationed late in a pattern then a quick audible interpolation on automated parameters from that position to the first line of the song can be heard on the beginning of the rendered file.
Recreate it by setting up an effect that change the sound significantly like a distortion plugin from min to max in the automation editor. It can occasionally be hard to hear so keep trying maybe another effect as it happens with most if not all.
Play the song and stop playing when the distortion/effect is close to max, now wait a second and press play and you’ll hear a ~100ms transition that is happening, this in itself is not a big deal but the issue is this effect is being rendered which it obviously shouldn’t.
If you instead go to the first line of the song before rendering then it will be fine, so the question is why isn’t Renoise telling the render function to go to line 1 and set the initial settings properly before rendering it out?

OK, found a singing synthesizer sample generator
So, I also like to use synthetic voices in my compositions, and over the years I’ve found singing synthesizers (a subset of text-to-speech synthesis). The best type are created by people recording their phonemes/consonants/etc. into music software like UTAU. We had a method of doing this via @satobox and Renoid. So, I wanted to find another way to do this without having to ask for vocal permissions, 'cuz I don’t want to ask permission, that’s why. Open/CC0, y’know?
I found an app that works on Windows and Mac (I use a Mac), and it’s called UTSU. Similar to UTAU and it runs on current Mac OSX.
Then, I went and found (by searching with the Internet) voicebanks that were created for UTAU and were free to use commercially and no permissions are necessary. I don’t care about the character images, because I’m not the character, so it doesn’t matter. I’m not using imagery, just the sounds.
I like to make the voice samples IN UTSU, and export them, so I can set them up in Renoise any way I like. It’s not hard, just tedious. If you read the directions by searching the Internet, you can too! Yeehaw.
