[tool idea] upgrade filters for all (old) instruments
Ey,
I’m working on a bunch of old .xm’s & .mods in Renoise, bringing them to the new millennium and so are working with a lot of instruments showing;
Afaik right now you have to manually go through every old instrument and hit the ‘Upgrade Filters’ button, right? If there is a tool already that can batch do this for all instruments in a song or if there is a native feature that I forgot, please let me know!
If not and it would be possible to script this, that would be great to have as there are a 800+ files to go through .

.XRNS/Song.xml - identifying Spire presets
I am trying to work out which presets I have used in my old tunes that make use of Spire/Massive. I have newer versions installed on my new PC so the Spire & Massive VSTs don’t load (they appear in the VST failure dialog when I open the tune in Renoise).
Which part (XML element) of the Song.xml file would tell Renoise which preset to load in Spire or Massive?
I’ve created a simple .xrns files which only opens 1 instance of Spire with the PL Chord Me factory preset. How does Renoise tell the VST which preset to load? If there a “blob” of binary data or something? I can’t find any reference to the name of the preset itself.
Is it contained within this “chunk”? (see Massive example below)
<PluginType>VST</PluginType> <PluginIdentifier>Massive</PluginIdentifier> <PluginDisplayName>VST: Native Instruments GmbH: Massive</PluginDisplayName> Beginner Help with keyboard/putting down notes
Hi there!
A beginner here who probably is missing something obvious.
Coming from using the Polyend Tracker I find both a lot of similarities and differences with Renoise.
My first “stumble” is when slicing;
I slice up a four bar drum-loop in even slices (a total of 32 slices), if I want to edit these into one pattern I find that when trying to do it the keyboard keys is overlapping, thus “accidentally” putting down the same slices/notes when changing octaves, this also happens when using a midi-keyboard (32 keys) and changing octaves on the keyboard I also trigger the same keys when editing making it hard to get the edits like I want it…
Is there an option to not have the same keys triggering on different octaves?

CrackleGen - Renoise Doofer
Made a crackle-generator to aid in the production of vinyl crackles, raindrops hitting a surface, choppy randomized gate/glitch.
This is a fairly simple Doofer, but produces some nice randomized gating with filter control. Aim this towards sounds you’d like to be in the background (like vinyl crackle, etc.). Works on any sound you throw in the sampler, 'cuz it’s a Doofer!

Help with some questions.. im thinking of buying this software
Hi , im thinking of getting this software sequencer to use as a main daw, then to hook up some external midi gear and a bit of eurorack.
Im familiar with tracker’s (to a degree) ive used nerdseq in euro track , polyend a bit … my frustration with eurorack / hardware sequencers is you are always limited by tracks available. And some are very limited in song arrangements.
So im.looking at this , i guess tracks arnt limited?
Either midi, audio or sofware instruments?
Midi, or instrument tracks are poly?
What about sync? As i will need to clock / reset out via midi to some external gear.
I guess … ratchets on notes / trig … is possible?
Any cool internal arp generator or other that can be used on midi tracks / instruments tracks ?
I was reading on here …that internal lfos are available…on steps etc …
Any pointers would appreciated…

VST effects in doofer , no effect alias to control
Sonic charge cyclone sampler is awesome
When using it as an effect we can sample in it and still be able play ( send midi data to it) when loading an effects alias in the instrument slot
See screenshot 1
The problem is when loading cyclone effect in a doofer container , the alias is NOt available anymore
See screenshot 2-3

Best way to get started for semi-beginner?
I wonder what is the “best” way to get really started in Renoise.
My musical history: I’m interested in EDM production, already played around with several DAWs (mainly Garageband on iPad, Ableton Live), finally went for FL Studio and spent some weeks with it working through several video tutorials. I like the concept of patterns in FL and the easy way to just “paint” them on tracks to produce a song. I should add that I consider myself to be a semi-beginner when it comes to music theory, scales etc.
But then I remembered that there is Renoise (already had a quick look at it some years ago) and for the past few days I tried out the demo version. I have to admit that - though I successfully worked my way through the Quickstart Guide - I still have some problems to wrap my head around some concepts of Renoise. I can understand the fascination for the Tracker approach but at the same time the absence of a graphical representation of the notes (don’t want to write the P.R. word) discourages me a bit.
On the other hand I feel strangely “attracted” by the clean user interface of Renoise and the program-like appearance of the edit window (I’m an IT guy - this might explain it). So I would really like to give Renoise a serious try and dive into it. Think I have to finish a song (or something like it) to achieve this goal.
I already watched quite a bit of YT video tutorials (official Renoise channel and by @midierror, @grooving and even the incredible @slujr (MrZensphere) ) but I still don’t feel “at home” in Renoise.
Does anybody have suggestions, tips or something like a best practice approach? Any help is appreciated!

Why should I(one) make music?
Purposely idiotic question, I know - but I feel recently that the flame is withering away - I feel like I am playing with baby toys, the whole endeavour seems silly.
It’s all just tonality and syncopation with timbral variations - why should I care.
I stuffed all my instruments and pedals away in storage, deleted Renoise shortcut. All I have is a fretless acoustic guitar.
I hate Music! It is stupid!

Installing the licensed copy - stupid newbie questions?
I finally bought Renoise some days ago and downloaded my copy from the Backstage area. Then I unpacked the file rns_342_osx.tar.gz and got the files Renoise.app and Renoise.license. But what to do now? Simply copy Renoise.app to the Applications folder (overwriting the demo version that already sits there)? What to do with the file Renoise.license? Can it be used to turn my demo version into a licensed version? If so, how do I achieve this?
Sorry if these questions may sound totally silly but I would like to be sure to do “the right thing” and understand what is going on.
I already asked the following questions already via the contact form some days ago but did not receive an answer yet. Maybe it would be a good idea to put the answers in the Backstage area.

Pattern Navigation while focused on automation view?
Not sure if I’m not searching well enough, but I can’t seem to find a way to navigate from pattern to pattern while focused on the track automation editor pane (i.e., line automation). Similar to using the CTRL+Up and Down keys while I’m focused on the pattern editor. Is this possible?

Selected Notes To Phrase (ChatGPT)
This tool was made purely by ChatGPT
I haven’t figured out how to compile it yet.
This script creates a new phrase, copies the selected notes in the arrangement editor to the new phrase, and adds the new phrase to the song. After running this script, you will have a new phrase in the phrases list that contains the selected notes.
Feel free to test at will…
accounts.google.com Google Docs: Sign-inAccess Google Docs with a personal Google account or Google Workspace account (for business use).
– Create phrase from selected area in arrangement editor

Looking for old LiveDive Launchpad edition tool
I’m looking for an old copy of the LiveDive Launchpad edition tool.
New Tool (2.8, 3.0): Live Dive Renoise Tools Hello, this tool was formely known as “Rableton Dive” which was beta and never was released officially on the tools page. Now I finished a new version with Launchpad support and decided to rename it and finally deploy it on the tools page. [livedive203.png] The primary purpose was to use it for remixing a song in a live performance. During the beta phase I got some great ideas of users and added also a recording option, so the tool also allows to record all changes, which makes it very easy …
My goal is to have a tool similar to this working by April, and it would be a lot easier to start with the tool’s lua source (which I can decompile) and start adding features to it.
Originally, the developer sold it for about $15 USD, which was definitely worth it, but now they may not have the source code or the time to dig it up. I haven’t heard back from them for about a week or two using a few different channels.
The way they were able to sell it and keep it sort of closed-source was by compiling the Lua 5.1 code into a binary format, which obfuscates the code, so main.lua and the others did not contain any editable lua code.
I’d gladly pay for it again, but there’s no longer a way to do so.
If anyone has it handy, I’ll start working on it right away and try add any features of bugfixes that are requested.
Thanks!

Option to Stop Wrapping Top to Bottom / Bottom to Top in Pattern Editor
It would be nice to be able to disable pattern wrapping entirely. I don’t want to move to another pattern nor wrap around to the other end of the current pattern. Neither of the current behaviors suit my usage, especially when scrolling quickly with swipe gestures on Mac trackpads (though I still find it irritating when scrolling with arrow keys). Boundaries being used as walls to ram into with fast input is a useful thing.
