Phobium - The Perlin Paradox

Renoise Forum - August 30, 2022 - 13:40

Hello!

Here’s my latest album. Again very FM8 heavy, but TyrellN6, Sylenth1, Zebralette, ABLPro and ABL2 can also be heard.

Once again Ted’s mastering template was vital for getting this album done.

Dat machine/ A/d converters

Renoise Forum - August 30, 2022 - 12:27

My Dat machine has died again after sending away to get it fixed. The format is just not worth it.I use Dat for the FAT saturation it gives off,now I’m aware the tape is digital, It has been said the saturation coming from the machines is from The A/D converters. Can someone out there who owns one or is knowledgeable in this confirm this?the reason I am asking is the sound you get when you drive the inputs is beautiful. You can try replicate this with various soft clippers, saturators, limiters etc etc but it always falls short.in particular the harmonic distortion is always different and the way it handles top end is inferior, also the perceived loudness seems to manage greater levels before reaching ear shredding distortion. If I can get this sound by simply clipping certain types of A/D converters that would be great.I would never bother with DAT again.Clipping the input of a soundcard would do this,no?

Can this be fixed?

Renoise Forum - August 30, 2022 - 09:17

Hi. For giggles I decided to ask here, maybe reduce my ignorance slightly. I am working on a project with an old tracker file. That would be the happy ending except that there’s some corruption in the pattern.

It’s pattern 2 on this file…

http://members.dslextreme.com/users/hwh/files/HKClub_Music.it

I was told to use schism tracker to interpret it. Ok. Pattern 2. I can play it, I can see the moment it screws up. And I have no idea how to fix it. I’m not a composer.

Row 48?? Sample is DLOOP3.WAV. And…

I don’t have a replacement for it. The idea was to replace the damaged section with a similar section, which wouldn’t require a tracker (although one is required to play patterns). But it seems to be a drum sample that is damaged.

I tried some sausagey fill-in of the time covering the damaged section, but that changed the tempo or timbre or whatever it is, it changed all the notes around which is a little astounding, that something seemingly unconnected to the rest of the arrangement would completely screw it up, but it does. That is, an audacity modified DLOOP3.WAV, same length. Plays back as expected in VLC.

Anyway I hate all this and just sort of want to confirm my diagnosis of no help unless someone here can wave a wand and cover it up cleanly.

Thoughts?

Thank you

Found a Bug in Window Management

Renoise Forum - August 29, 2022 - 13:10

Hi,

I have found a Bug/unnice Behaviour in actual 3.4 Version of Renoise.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start Renoise in normal Mode (Not in Fullscreenmode)
  2. Undock Mixerview drag it on second monitor and click the window maximize icon of it.
  3. Click the window mimimize icon of the Renoise mainwindow. (both windows are minimized)
  4. Click on the Renoise Tab on the Windows Taskbar.

Renoise mainwindow will recovered to last dimensions correctly, but the undocked mixerview on second screen is not recovered to last dimensions (maximized window style)

And other unnice Behaviour…

When you click the minimize icon of the Mixerwindow in Step 3. the Mixerwindow is completely go and cant be recovered in normal way. You have to dock and undock again to recover it.

Tested on Windows 7 Last Patchstate

Can anybody confirm this?

happy tracking

From Redux to Renoise

Renoise Forum - August 29, 2022 - 10:56

Just purchased Renoise(literally) after using Redux for about a year. I knew this day would come.

I’ve switched DAWs a few times in the past year and Redux was always there. Keyboard shortcuts, pattern sequencing, hexadecimal and raw sample manipulation at its finest. In just a plugin.

I’ve made beats using NOTHING BUT instances of Redux. No external FX Plugins! Only TRIGGERING patterns! In other DAWs! They should be ashamed.

Like I said…I knew this day would come

Slicing a Sample with Beatsync(Time stretch)

Renoise Forum - August 29, 2022 - 09:11

I’m positive that after beatsyncing a sample with timestretch option, not repitch, and slicing that sample manually or with the slice tool there is no way to keep the slices in sync with the main sample without adjusting each slices beatsync.

If I’m missing something can someone help me?

Making slice points via my keyboard on a sample I loaded from the browser that autoset the beatsync length is satisfying on so many levels

I get a serious case of beat makin’ blue balls when the slices revert to the original tempo of the sample. I use Redux and it’s so feature rich that I think I might be overlooking something

UI/Grouping: Is there a way to group tracks+sends?

Renoise Forum - August 28, 2022 - 03:53

Hello,

I’m new to Renoise. I come from Ableton, and one thing I enjoy doing is taking a sample, routing it to an audio track and using the Post FX channel to add effects. I can layer the groups in any way I see fit, and it stays neat, tidy, and flexible for mixing. I’d like to be able to do something similar in Renoise.

I’ve uploaded a screenshot from Ableton showing a small example to help explain what kind of organization I’m looking for.

Am I able to do something like this in Renoise?

Any ideas/input are appreciated

Thanks!

Shortcut: Jump to next column/track

Renoise Forum - August 27, 2022 - 22:49

Hi, can anyone help me understanding difference of these options?
i’ve tried both and they show no difference. Both options behave exactly the same.

i’d expect that shortcut - jump to next column would go to next column…
order example: press once to go - note, 2.vol 3.pan 4.delay 5.fx etc

Thanks

Beatsync keyboard shortcut?

Renoise Forum - August 26, 2022 - 10:34

I think I may have seen this requested before, but being primarily keyboard driven I find the process of having to click the beatsync box a little bit of a workflow stopper, if a keyboard shortcut for beatsync was created this would be a nice little upgrade

Does any have an old (pre ver. 2) quickstart pdf? It contained something hilarious

Renoise Forum - August 25, 2022 - 16:28

Some of you folks who have been around a while might remember a line in the old quickstart that was like:

“Before we get started, sit back, relax, and roll yourself a huge spliff…”

I’ve always thought this was hilarious and makes me nostalgic for the days when devs were being a bit more cheeky in their documentation. I’m sure they eventually realized this was “unprofessional” and took it out.

I would just like to have a screenshot of it for lols.

Thanks in advance

Wavetables in renoise

Renoise Forum - August 23, 2022 - 17:15

hey all, just thought I’d share this technique for making rudimentary crossfading wavetables natively in renoise.

Pretty simple idea. Multiple modulation sets with stepper devices set to a step value of 0, custom crossfade curves, stepper reset tied to a macro. This example has four waves in the table, but the principle can be extended if you want more “frames.” Obviously, crossfading is a fairly primitive form of wave morphing, but it works, and can sound pretty decent, at least in my opinion

here’s a very simple example of the principle:
basic shapes wavetable.xrni (5.8 KB)

the main downside of this method being that if you wish to further sculpt the modulation of the sound in a consistent way across waveforms, each modulation device must be copied and pasted across modulation sets. so it’s a little tedious. But, the upside being that you can have entirely different modulation behavior between different wave frames, which can make for some very interesting sounds. Fun to stack multiple waveforms in each set, too… as usual, sky’s the limit

Does Renoise fully utilize the latest cpu's?

Renoise Forum - August 23, 2022 - 13:37

I’m running out of processing power in Renoise so I’m planning to update my ryzen 3600.

I’m trying to decide between 5700x and 5900x. Can Renoise use all of the cores/threads (12/24) on 5900x? If I’m understanding this right, more threads is better than slight increase in clock speed?
