My first song using soft synths

Renoise Forum - August 15, 2022 - 19:13

I´ve been sticking to samples all my life but now that I want to make dance music, I have realized that synths are the way to go. Much easier to make a dance-able sound. I´m amazed by the change of sound, it feels like Renoise just got a sick expansion, it´s the same game but I now have a lot more to learn.

TWEAKY DRUM native drum synth

Renoise Forum - August 15, 2022 - 16:12

TWEAKY DRUM v1.xrni (16.0 KB)

Thought I’d give this its own topic for ease of access later. This instrument is a simple monophonic drum synth with saw/sin/square/triangle waveforms and a noise oscillator.
Really simple, just tweak the macro knobs and play around. Easy to get lots of different tones for resampling or sequencing. Future versions will be posted here if this gets reworked at all.

Hope you enjoy it!

Intech Studio - MIDI controllers - Grid Editor - OSC?

Renoise Forum - August 15, 2022 - 14:53

I consider it a suggestion, so I’m posting here. These things: https://intech.studio/

I’ve gotten four of these controllers and they are awesome and fully customizable. I would love to see someone develop a tool that makes these controllers basically a bi-directional Surface controller for Renoise.

If you have what it takes to develop the tool, I will buy you the controllers to do it!

They are on summer sale until end of August. Not pricey - they’re not plastic like - love them.

Please - this must be done. These are the controllers for Renoise - TRUST

iOS TweakyBeat- can this be made in Renoise?

Renoise Forum - August 14, 2022 - 19:40

It’s essentially a monophonic drum-synth, except it has multiple ‘voices’. Each voice cuts off the next in the sequence.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/x5hL94MlRlo

I downloaded this old app (still works) on my iPhone, and it’s addictive. I’m imagining that one instrument would contain X amount of drum synths (the kind we could build internally in Renoise), and the instrument itself would have to be ‘mono’.

Is this possible? Some form of drum synthesis and each instrument assigned to a note?

Would be a fun way to get a different sound.

[Bug] aftertouch live recording does not open the FX column

Renoise Forum - August 14, 2022 - 17:27

When recording with a midi controller with aftertouch keys from a default note track with all sub-columns closed, it should automatically open all sub-columns that record data.

The fact is that it opens all the necessary ones, the volume one, the delay one, the pan one to capture the M3 value, but the first FX effect sub-column remains hidden, it should also be opened (in the image above, I had to manually open the first FX column, which was hidden and full of newly recorded information.).

To test this, record with a MIDI controller with aftertouched keys from a track starting with all subcolumns closed, making sure to play with aftertouch.

Keyboard question

Renoise Forum - August 13, 2022 - 16:56

Hi everyone,

I have a simple question, if anyone could be so kind to respond if you can,

I am using Surge XT as a plugin within Renoise. I want to save a patch in Surge XT, but when I try to type a name for my new patch in Surge XT, Renoise responds as if I am playing notes on the keyboard. Is there a way to temporarily stop Renoise from thinking that my keyboard is for playing notes?

Soundspot - Hiku not working anymore

Renoise Forum - August 12, 2022 - 22:52

Hey,

I was using the 3.2.1 since a moment and Hiku was working. Moved yesterday to last version, so 3.4.2 and it simply doesn’t work anymore.

I’ve tried in VST2, VST3… I’ve even reinstalled 3.2.1 and :"/

Anybody as experienced the same problem by chance ? a tip, solution eventually ?

Cheap but quite useful, I’ve even tried a trial version…no luck.

Cheers o/

Render To Sample Jumps To Next Pattern

Renoise Forum - August 12, 2022 - 14:51

https://www.youtube.com/embed/bDrqnHugSM8

OK, this is a weird one. If a Send track has an effect in it, any Render To Sample that includes the last line of a pattern will jump to the next pattern upon completion. Annoyingly, it also truncates the selection if the next pattern is shorter.

Very weird Waves plugin bug

Renoise Forum - August 11, 2022 - 12:29

hey guys.

So i have several waves plugins, bought, installed and authorized via the Waves Central and i got a weird issue.

I replaced my PC with a new one last week. I have promptly re-installed and re-authorized all my Waves plugins. They work well in Renoise, like they should If i add them newly.

But if i load up an old renoise file (ie. made on the old PC), it says that the plugins are missing. I see them in the DSP chain deactivated. But i still have the very same plugin in the plugins list. I can obviously click on them and re-add them but 1., it’s a major pain in the a$$ and 2., i lose all the settings that were set in said tunes.

I emailed Waves support about it. all they said was Renoise is not on the supported DAWs list and they shrugged.

Why doesn’t renoise see and load in the exact same plugins that i have installed? Does anyone have the same issue? Do you have the solution?

Thanks in advance!

Holding Shift Doesn't Stay On Line in Sample FX Column

Renoise Forum - August 10, 2022 - 16:06

" When recording an effect column value, the cursor automatically moves down to the next line. If you want the cursor to advance to the right instead, hold “Left Shift” while entering the values"

This works for track FX, but for the sample FX column, if you, for example, enter -V while holding left shift in order to stay on the same line to enter an fx value, it jumps to the next line. This doesn’t happen in the track fx column, as expected. The cursor ~will~ stay on the line while your cursor is on the value area and entering a value in the sample fx column, but if you are entering the FX type you would expect to be able to then enter the value without it jumping to the next line, just like the track fx column.

Stretching Sample from Edit Track Effects Menu

Renoise Forum - August 10, 2022 - 00:05

Hi; I created a sound from a sample which uses a Convolver and wanted to make the sound that was produced longer and wanted to know if there was a way to do so using another Track Effect, or if I needed to be under the Sampler tab under Modulation or Effects?

Bundled Phrase or additional phrases

Renoise Forum - August 9, 2022 - 23:57

Anyone know if there is a resource for additional phrases? Would love to add to the list. I quite often customize the GM drum phrases that are bundled, but there is a pretty limited amount.

Weird resonant tone in my monitors?!?

Renoise Forum - August 9, 2022 - 19:25

I talked about this over at I would like to hear your music made with Renoise or other Daws - #2999 by stoiximan
My conclusion there was that it came from the guitar, but now i realized the guitar is not the cause, it just happened to trigger the tone because electric guitars are naturally loud in the area where the resonant tone occurs.

Ok, so here is the case. My monitors start resonating badly everytime i play a loudish note with a lot of 130Hz in it (around C4 in Renoise). I have pretty much ruled out anything, but the monitors.
I have tried 2 different sound cards, i’v tried with soft synths, bass guitar and e-guitar and whenever i get close to loud on C in the lower octaves my monitors starts booming like crazy. There is nothing weird in the spectrum view either, no spikes or anything.
Could this be a grounding issue? My monitors are connected to a non grounded outlet, so i guess that could cause some noise, but then i would assume i should hear some 60Hz humming?
Could it be caused by something in the computer or wifi or something?

Any ideas? Time for new monitors?
